historic register: American Legion Hut Searcy AR today. On National Historic Register. - 04/05/19 07:22 AM

Searcy AR
American Legion Hut
You drive by this almost daily and think nothing about it but is one of Searcy's oldest and most historic buildings.  It is on Race Street across from the White County Courthouse.  It was constructed in 1939 with native fieldstone with funding support from Works Progress Administration (WPA).  It was placed on the U. S. National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
What you don't see and if you are like me, you may have never seen the back of the building.  I took a picture and here it is.  It almost appears to be an add-on but only … (5 comments)

historic register: Continued....Prettiest little filling station in Bald Knob AR... - 07/20/15 03:34 AM
I wrote a blog last week about the pleasure I receive when passing by the little old English Tudor filling station in Bald Knob.  Lots of Sleuths have responded and I now have more pictures, more knowledge, and new friends.  It is on the Historic Register, was built around 1930 and was operated by the man shown in the picture below and all comments stated how nice he was.
Here's my picture with first blog.
Look at this next picture that was provided by a Sleuth who got it from an old high school yearbook.

historic register: 304 Austin, Pangburn Arkansas,Boggs House.....on Historic Register.....for sale. - 03/12/11 02:10 PM
Maybe I'm a little nuts.  Mention some other's agents's listing?  Another company's listing?  Yeah, nuts!
But look at this old house for sale in Pangburn Arkansas.  It is reported to be on the Historic Register of Homes, built in 1898, was once the telephone company and is known as the "Boggs Home."

Someone has taken an old house and dolled it up to have lots of charm.  I especially like this inside picture of the house.

This picture shows the stairs going up, the old boards on the wall and makes you think of sending the kids to bed … (15 comments)

historic register: Look at the curves on this house! East Market beauty Searcy Arkansas. - 02/18/11 12:32 PM
You've got your own route to your destination?  Right?  So have I.  I drive down East Market Street near Harding University everyday.  Each day I compare the lovely old houses on the North side vs. the apartments and changes on the South side.
I especially like this house.  The court house says it was built in 1945.

It has more curves than a fashion model!  Over the windows, over the doors, and even the roof line curves.  It appears to be a delightful mixture of brick, rock and stucco.
But for the past few days as I drive by … (42 comments)

historic register: Victorian home in Searcy AR now used as Homeless Shelter. - 01/07/09 10:19 AM

Here's another one of our old Searcy historic homes.
My history of this goes back several years but not nearly far enough back to supply the historic background.  I'm depending on my Searcy readers to do that.
I remember a physician who bought this home and spent lots of money restoring it and he and his family lived in it for several years.  He then sold it and a few businesses were operated there.  One was a tea house with fancy little sandwiches and things loved by women.  If you went in there were several women sipping away and if … (14 comments)
