interest rates: High interest rates. How about 9% -22%. Review the 1980s. - 11/02/22 08:37 AM

Interest rate booklet from 1980's.
So we REALTORS are worried about what's coming!  Interest rates are around 7% right now and we are hurting.  Those of us who go back to the 1980s remember living through awful times.  This book was found in a deceased real estate agent's estate sale and brought back many memories for me.  We did lots of owner-financing!
We were also fortunate in having some assumable loans that didn't require credit checks or permission.  FHA loans, VA loans, and ADFA (called bond money loans) were assumable.  This book was published in 1980 and had the owner's name and his … (3 comments)

interest rates: Calculator showing its age? 14.5% interest. 1982 Calculated Industries. - 06/24/21 07:25 AM

I still use it!  But I just checked its age.
I knew it was old but didn't realize it was this old!  Check the example on how to use this calculator where it says payment.  Loan amount was to be $75,000.  Interest rate was to be 14.5%. Term was to be 30 years.  Payment? $918.41!
Then I looked at the bottom fine print and it gave the brand, Calculated Industries Inc. 1982!  It is hard to believe that interest rates actually went higher than this in the 80's.  I was a struggling real estate agent and was delighted to learn how to use … (7 comments)

interest rates: 1984 Listing Searcy AR home MLS entry. Note differences in interest rates. - 11/22/20 12:05 PM

Looking back to 1984 MLS entry
With today's 3% or less interest rates when buying a home, let's take a look at a listing from July 1984.  Searcy AR had started getting Multiple Listing Books every two weeks in the year 1982.  How'd we do that?  We had a California real estate agent move to Searcy and told us how the real world worked and we subscribed.  It was wonderful!
Anyway, back to this listing.  Notice the information that was included, especially the loan information.  It told how much was owed on the house and at what interest rate and gave the equity … (4 comments)

interest rates: RE/MAX looking back. Found in treasure box! Statistics. Searcy AR ad - 03/05/19 08:09 AM

Look at this old advertisement that I put out in 1993!
It was found amidst other treasures sent to my daughter from someone who discovered it and thought she might like to have it.  I LOVE IT!  Note there was no cell phone in this ad but there was a pager number.  Pagers are gone.  Home phones are almost all gone.  And I still work for RE/MAX.  And as Willie Nelson says, "I woke up still not dead again today."
Perhaps it needs an update.  Here goes.
2018 -    Interest rates are around 4.25%.  Average sales price of a home in 2018 … (7 comments)

interest rates: Interest Rate? Are they really the indicator of a bad real estate market? - 01/08/09 09:31 AM
My friend Larry DeGroat, who can do miracles with a computer, just posted this and I think it is good enough to reblog.

With the endless negativity of the news media, I was curious on how the interest rates really did fair for the past several years.  The media goes on and on about how bad the real estate market is and that is why the interest rates are so low.  I was giving this some thought and remembered that I was closing deals several years ago with low interest rates.
In my market, the local lenders e-mail me the interest … (6 comments)
