old house: Unforgettable chimney, over 100 years old, still operating, pawn shop - 01/22/23 09:54 AM

Another M. D. Faith real estate photo from around 1979. Searcy AR
As I began two other blogs,  M. D. Faith was one of the early real estate brokers in Searcy AR.  He and his wife have both passed and their home on Pleasure Street has just sold.  An estate sale was held and I dropped by.  There was an envelop with negatives in it from pictures made by him for his real estate sales or for his pleasure.  I have a friend who was able to print the pictures from the negatives (I returned the negatives to the heirs) and this … (3 comments)

old house: Absolutely beautiful trees. Left with no house to shade. Searcy AR. - 03/05/17 11:52 AM

Let's use our imagination.  It is about 1930.  This house is about 5 years old and takes up a huge portion of a lot near downtown Searcy AR.  Erase the extra electrical wiring that is for 4 or more apartments and ignore the couch on the front porch.  Just admire the curved front porch, the tall gables and the large windows and the sidewalk and the front walkway to the front porch.  Imagine a very fine home that probably had a family of some substance living there.
By the year 1984 it had been turned into apartments.  It was evidently common … (6 comments)

old house: Probably unchanged old home in Searcy AR. Sleuths, can you find it? - 09/15/13 03:18 AM
Several of the Searcy Sleuths no longer live in Searcy but are proud of the town where they grew up.
I'm thinking that this house dates back to their youth in Searcy and has probably had no changes since that time.  It has been on this big pretty lot since I have been in Searcy.  I once wrote a blog about the bigger the tree, the older the house.  Go review it if you'd like.  The tree was at the old home of Wilbur Mills in Kensett.
Now look at the size of the tree in this front yard!
Each time … (15 comments)

old house: Is he in or is he out? Of the red wagon, I mean. Don Thompson as a kid. - 04/03/13 10:07 AM
We did a blog yesterday showing an old house, worn out but still standing.  It brought back a lot of memories.
Don Thompson, Super Sleuth who grew up in Searcy, sent a picture of himself as a kid visiting at a house similar to the one we pictured.
I looked at it and thought he was behind the wagon.
I looked again and saw he was actually IN the wagon.
It is a puzzler, almost.  Is he in or is he out.  Which do you see first?
He is standing so securely and the wagon looks as it it could tip.

old house: Have you always wanted an old house with charm, wood floors, and a big yard with pecan trees? - 01/28/11 01:15 PM
If you drool when you drive by Victorian homes, look at this one.  It is a HUD foreclosure property in the little town of Bald Knob.  The courthouse says it was built in 1947 but I don't believe that.  An old-timer in Bald Knob says it dates back to the 20's, he thinks.  The storage building in the back yard, he says, was an old dairy barn.

It has the charm of hardwood floors, tall windows, a bay room that would be excellent for piano playing space.  Definitely, it takes us back to another era.  Note the pecan tree!!  … (17 comments)
