santa claus: 25" Waistline. Santa heavy. Liz Taylor. Memories. Merry Christmas. - 12/22/24 04:53 AM

Wasn't Liz Taylor lovely?
We are so involved with Christmas and Santa Claus right now that finding this old picture in my collection makes me wonder how Santa Claus got so heavy!
I again recall that growing up way back with bobby sox and saddle shoes, we were taught to be thin.  Go back to this blog for a minute and see pictures and read what we were taught in school.                        https://activerain.com/droplet/5llV
Looks as if Liz had a 25" waist if anybody could have!  We girls tried way back then but we never … (2 comments)

santa claus: Santa of the 50's. Favorite. Saddle shoes. Bobby Socks. '57 Chevy. - 12/20/24 05:26 AM

A Favorite Santa
I have a small collection of Santa Clauses and this is one of my favorites.  It is called a 20th Century Claus and personifies the traditional American Santa.  I love his bobby socks and saddle shoes that were so popular in the 50's.  And be sure to see what he is gifting.  Television set, '57 Chevy, record, Cola, and a blonde possible Marilyn Monroe doll!
I wish all of my activerain friends a happy holiday season!!

santa claus: Who remembers Ed Ortcotter? Christmas, animal, people lover Searcy AR - 06/12/24 01:31 PM

Original watercolor honors Mr. Ortcotter
It has been over 20 years since Searcy lost Ed Ortcotter but probably lots of Searcy residents remember him.  His profession was painting houses but he also loved painting pictures and took art lessons.  The one above was done by Searcy artist, Terry Williams, as a tribute to his good friend, Mr. Ortcotter, after his death.
I remember him because of his love for Christmas.  He dressed up his yard and house with decorations.  He sometimes had a Santa's Workshop in his front yard and at times dressed as Santa and handed out candy to kids who drove … (1 comments)

santa claus: Tired Santa. Old Christmas decoration. Price on bottom? - 12/10/23 02:32 PM

Santa is tired!
Antique chalk decoration for Christmas.
I drag him out every Christmas and enjoy my sleeping Santa.  I bought him at a garage sale several years ago and he is a delight to have around.....so different!  I don't know how old he is but the original price is on the bottom  Let's look.
There it is!  If you are old enough to remember going to the "dime store" with parents many years ago you'd perhaps remember how items were priced on the bottom with a marker.  This was 69 cents!  What would it be today?  Seems as if we can't buy anything … (7 comments)

santa claus: Christmas memories........... - 12/13/09 12:28 PM
Memories....
That's what Christmas is...
Especially for the ones who are gaining in years...
Each year I stress over the commercialism of Christmas, the installation of decorations in November or earlier....
Each year I swear that I am not going to drag out the old antique decorations at my house and I'm surely not going to buy any new ones since the house is practically empty with no little ones waking before dawn and dragging me out.
Husband is a baby, himself.  He starts saying, "Are we not going to have any decorations for Christmas?"  I say to him, "You know … (13 comments)
