searcy ar real estate: Visited by my favorite photographer from yesteryear, Paula Anne. - 12/24/08 02:14 AM
I've posted lots of old pictures of our little town, Searcy Arkansas during the past few months.  Lots of them were taken by Paula Anne when she was a Girl Scout and had a photography project to take care of.
Pictures that she took then and she probably considered useless but Mom and Dad thought were wonderful because their little girl took them are now treasures.  I'm going to repeat one of my favorite pictures of her as a little girl when she won the camera.  She's the tall girl in the background.

Yesterday she and her husband Don … (10 comments)

searcy ar real estate: Fall is the time for Tarantulas to migrate..... - 10/27/08 12:25 AM
I once had a listing that I ended up owning.  That is unusual and this particular house was not one that you'd want to own.  It was an old farm house type with high ceilings, wood floors, large double-hung windows, ramshackle doors and on the edge of town surrounded by big trees.
To some of you it sounds like a dream house....right?  Well according to the people who lived there it was not.  She was wanting a better house.  One of the reasons she wanted a better house was because of the tarantulas.  She said they came through the cracks in the … (15 comments)

searcy ar real estate: Now that's a balloon!! RE/MAX brand. - 10/23/08 12:08 PM
Time for only a short blog!  It has been a busy day.
I lived through frustrations, almost contracts, and a lot of fun.
So what can one blog about when one has nothing to blog about.
Oh, YES!!!!  The balloon.  I've been planning to post this fantastic balloon.  My friend took this picture for me because I'm a RE/MAX agent. I've been a RE/MAX agent since 1993!   He was at some balloon fest, probably at New Mexico.  He is a fantastic photographer and I questioned where he'd got the card.
"I took it myself,"  he replied.   How'd you like to be in … (19 comments)

searcy ar real estate: Searcy Arkansas's Rialto Theater, on the court square. - 08/31/08 02:29 AM

Searcy Arkansas has one of the oldest theaters in Arkansas.  It was built in approximately 1923 and still flashes its Neon sign as busy Race Street passes within a few feet of its ticket window.
The theater building is owned by the city of Searcy as it was donated to the city by a prominent family several years ago.  It is now operated by a gentleman who gets to rent it free because he paid about $75,000 of his own funds to renovate the Rialto.
It's a win-win situation because the building is not sitting vacant.  Victor Weber runs the theater … (20 comments)

searcy ar real estate: A picture of the lady who named Security Bank, now First Security in Searcy AR - 08/30/08 12:16 AM

What a treat to put up this old picture.  These two ladies worked at a bank in Searcy Arkansas and there was a contest to name the bank.  Reportedly the one on the right won the contest with the name Security Bank.  This lady also is the mother of Anita, who comments on my blogs and gives us additional information about our city.
First Security Bank, as it is now named, stretches out over the whole city block but they are restoring this old building to resemble the way it was originally.  I love this picture and it was sent to me … (12 comments)

searcy ar real estate: My favorite "cats" or past customers or fun friends. Scott and Nancy. - 08/23/08 12:36 AM

Last year I had communication from someone who wanted to move from Baltimore to the country.  They decided to look at Searcy after doing extensive searches on the internet.
First trip they just looked around and went back to place their house on the market.
Then they came back with the intent to buy!  Lucky me!  We found them a house in a beautiful part of the country with a basement!!  We don't have basements in this area.  Only foolish people build houses with basements in the south.  And this house with a basement wouldn't sell because it had a … (20 comments)

searcy ar real estate: Dining in the dark, literally. Absolute dark restaurants! - 08/17/08 02:43 AM
I just finished reading "Are You There, Vodka?  It's Me, Chelsea."  It is a very irreverent book written by Chelsea Handler, a stand-up comic and and an actress and author of this best-seller.
In chapter six, she describes going to a restaurant in France that is completely dark inside.  I thought she was just being funny.  How could anyone have a restaurant that is all dark??
Well, evidently it is truth because in the paper today, there is an article by Elliott Hester from the Universal Press Syndicate, called, "Dining in the dark awakens taste buds."  Yep, there it was.  Since … (19 comments)

searcy ar real estate: I really thought those buyers loved me!!!??? - 03/16/08 12:01 PM

I met the people at a house that had 13 acres and a decent house.  We looked and looked and stood at the kitchen island.  She looked at him and he looked at her and he said, "I think we have found ourselves a real estate agent!"   I felt so proud!  I could have swooned!
For the next several months, we looked at property.  She traveled but when she was at home, she shopped real estate.  She liked class....lots of class.  He liked land....lots of land.  Some of the properties were several miles away in order to get that land with a … (27 comments)

searcy ar real estate: Sept Oct Nov stats for Searcy AR according to Talk Business Quarterly. - 02/01/08 05:52 AM

TALK BUSINESS QUARTERLY GAVE THE FOLLOWING STATISTICS FOR SEARCY ARKANSAS, LOCATED IN WHITE COUNTY.  IF ANY ACTIVE RAIN FOLKS ARE INTERESTED IN SEARCY ARKANSAS WHITE COUNTY WHERE "THOUSANDS LIVE AS MILLIONS WOULD LIKE TO LIVE".  Searcy had one large plant closing and we are still trying to overcome that.  Fayetteville Shale has brought lots of gas exploration to our area and we have an increase in sales tax collections because of the increased sales to new people in town.  New building permits are down, home sales are slightly down in units but slightly up in volume dollar.  New commercial building permits … (1 comments)
