yearbooks: Yearbooks? Worthless? I love them! We have 8 Judsonia AR ones! 1980s - 02/15/24 06:40 AM

Have you ever noticed that a yearbook may be called "Panther" or some name but you have a hard time finding the city that it is from?  Here are our Panthers but it was a search to find that they are from Judsonia AR. (Remember the city that was destroyed in 1952 by a tornado.)
So what are they good for? They are historic for sure! Looking through them reminds you of your favorite or least favorite teachers, students that you had crushes on or hated, hair styles, clothing styles, sports events, school events of all kinds!  And these are from kindergarten … (1 comments)

yearbooks: Down memory lane. Quattlebaum Music Center. Vinyl records. Searcy AR - 04/02/17 05:46 PM

Did you ever do this?  Did you visit the record store and thumb through dozens of vinyl albums looking for your favorites?  I suspect you did and you did it with the same enthusiasm that young people of today embrace their smart phones.  This picture was in a 1978 yearbook from Searcy AR.  It was taken to advertise Quattlebaum Music Center in downtown Searcy.  The students would visit the advertisers and have their pictures taken while they were smiling at the camera.  Not this one!  The students appear to have become infatuated with the record search and forgot the camera!

yearbooks: Looking back. Junior Class Officers. Searcy AR 1950. - 06/02/16 05:57 AM

I love this picture and it brings back lots of memories.....and questions.  I remember the rolled up jeans for the boys.  (Girls too but they didn't let girls wear pants to school.)  I do not remember the multi-colored patterned socks that these guys have on.  Crewcut hair?  Yep?  And I do love that one guy's wavey hair.  For girls the style was a skirt, a sweater with a little short scarf around the neck and the saddle oxford shoes and socks.
This picture is in the 1950 Searcy Lion's Diary yearbook and kinda captivated me for some reason.  Can you Sleuths … (4 comments)

yearbooks: Mt Vernon AR cute kids from 1963. Know any of them? - 10/01/15 10:58 PM

Small schools did not have the funds to put out yearbooks.  At least that was my experience in a tiny school in Georgia.  They did, however, try to take a yearly picture of the classes.  My guess is that this picture was just that.....the yearly picture.  Boys must have been told to wear a tie and the girls were told to wear their best dresses.  Note the date and the pumpkins on the table and the happy, happy kids!  You can almost tell personality by looking at each one.  Perhaps some of our Searcy Sleuths will be familiar with Mount Vernon … (0 comments)

yearbooks: The new history book. Yearbooks! I love this one from Bald Knob AR. - 09/09/15 04:36 AM

This yearbook from Bald Knob AR is for sale on ebay right now.  I can't afford it but I do love the cover.  I have never seen this much creativity in a cover.  Tearin' It Up with a corner that looks as if they were ripping the page seems different and must have come from a creative art student.  I have several old books from Searcy AR and from Harding College (now University) in Searcy and a few from other cities but this is the best cover of them all.  Perhaps the buyer will be from around our area and will … (0 comments)

yearbooks: Searcy AR. High school's first girl's tennis team. 1976. - 02/20/15 09:36 PM
Iced in.  Can't get out to go to work!  What do you do?
Well, for one thing it is lots of fun to look at old yearbooks from the local high school.
That's what I did and it brought back lots of memories of which this picture is a great reminder.

The reason this picture is so special and means so much to me is that my daughter is on the left and this was the ONLY page in the whole yearbook with girl's sports.  There were about 40 pages in the yearbook with boy's sports.  Title IX which … (5 comments)

yearbooks: The Ideal Shop. Fashion in Searcy AR in 1967. - 04/13/14 10:57 AM
This picture comes from the 1967 yearbook for Harding College because the Ideal Shop bought an ad in the book along with lots of other Searcy businesses.  What I like about this picture is the style that it shows.
1.  At that time dress length was dictated by fashion.  No one dared to differ.
2.  Hats were very much in style.  Ideal Shop had lots of hats to choose from.
3.  Ladies wore gloves.  For church or any dress-up occasion.
4.  Shoes were high heels, yes, but you didn't see platform shoes like today's.
5.  Purses were simple and you needed … (4 comments)
