sethgodin: The Right People Telling your Story - 12/20/19 06:57 AM
Making your case “Conventional wisdom:
Find a large group of people.
Explain why you’re better.
Prove that you are the right answer.
Done.
How it actually works:
Earn attention from precisely the right people.
Gain trust.
Tell a story.
Create tension.
Relieve the tension by gaining commitment.
Deliver work that’s remarkable.
They spread the word.”
YES! Seth Godin NAILED it!
Early this week, I finally succumbed to the reality that would not likely EVER “get” quickbooks.
Truth is . . . I don’t speak it’s language. It’s so “robust”, I’m overwhelmed and frustrated with my inability to use it effectively.
Why was I … (3 comments)

sethgodin: Thanksgiving Ritual - 11/25/19 09:27 AM
Since 2015 . . . Seth Godin has posted this post on the Monday before Thanksgiving! Every year, I forward this to everyone I know because I believe that, whether you read any part of this message or do the whole gambit of reading it around the Thanksgiving Table, good will come.
Happy Thanksgiving!
“If every day were Thanksgiving
In three days . . . just about everyone in the United States will celebrate the best holiday of the year: Thanksgiving. I’m hoping that this year, you and your family will help me start a new holiday tradition.
At its best, this is … (1 comments)

sethgodin: Well – That digital experiment was entertaining - 11/19/19 08:03 AM
Well – That digital experiment was entertainingIf you’re still playing the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) game, STOP! The odds are VERY slim that you’ll be discovered as a result of the time, energy, and money you’re squandering.
Consider Seth Godin’s post this morning:
The Google tax
Here are a few enlightening highlights:
“The tax we each pay so that companies can bid against each other to buy traffic from Google.” “They’ve become the internet’s landlord.” “the model of bidding for attention is so economically compelling (because attention is so scarce), that companies are going to be paying ever more to reach people in … (47 comments)

sethgodin: A recurring theme – Bigger results in caring less . . . or does it? - 07/26/19 06:11 AM
Seth Godin published this post today: Too big to care “As brands get bigger (and bigger might be as small as an organization with just two people in it), policies kick in. Policies and budgets and bureaucracy.
The brand has become too big to care. I mean, it might be big enough to pretend to care. To have policies that appear to set things right. But they don’t really care.”
I published this yesterday:
A drip is not a conversation This reminded me of this short video which I first saw (Ironically) at the NinjaSelling installation
Maybe I’m delusional, but I believe that it … (4 comments)

sethgodin: The Power of Coming out from Behind the Service counter - 07/09/19 05:45 AM
Doesn’t it feel great to be served well? I think I’m accurate saying that all people appreciate when they feel “cared for”!
In truth, we crave this.
We thrive on human to human interaction. Seth Godin offers a great example in his blog post this morning.
The $50,000 an hour gate agent
I had an awesome experience having breakfast at First Watch (Green Hills) yesterday. The Server was personable and definitely cared. The food had obviously been prepared with care. I noticed other servers caring for each other. Clearly, serving the diners was a team effort.
Counters are barriers that often create “bunkers” … (10 comments)

sethgodin: Seth Godin’s “Learning/Doing Gap” - 06/11/19 05:47 AM
Seth Godin’s timeliness is uncanny! Here’s a link to today’s blog post
The Learning/Doing Gap This morning, I am heading to a full day class – NAR TECH EDGE
Will it be worth the time invested?
What will I learn?
Will what I learn be relevant and how might it enhance my doing?
Seth suggests this: “The thing we usually seek to label as ‘learning’ is actually more about ‘education’. It revolves around compliance, rankings and “will this be on the test?””
and
“What happens if the learning we do is accomplished by always engaging in it in conjunction with our doing?”
“And … (6 comments)

sethgodin: Your Azimuth! - 04/21/19 01:22 PM
Having a map may not get you there! Not having a map might get you there.
When you leave here, do you know where you want to go?
So . . . You know where you want to go . . . Do you know how to get there?
If not, we have lots of ways to help us navigate from here to there:
Maps can be handy, but they may not get us there efficiently or possibly not at all because they are static. A map is not more than a description of the territory as it was when the … (2 comments)

sethgodin: Comcast Scheme Revealed by Seth Godin - 04/01/19 04:47 AM
This has gone too far (click the link for Seth's post) There IS such a thing as “TOO BIG” in Corporate America.
I know – This is Capitalism at it’s finest.
Big fish eat little fish!
ENOUGH ALREADY!
We don’t have to put with these corporate MONSTERS anymore.
Lucky ME!
I hit the lottery last week, so the dogs and I are packing up and moving off the grid to a small island in the Pacific Northwest. Of course, Pareto Realty will still thrive because I can be Broker from there.
What’s YOUR plan?

sethgodin: Sounding Board or Echo Chamber? - 03/20/19 06:35 AM
Seth Godin and I are on the same wave-length today. People who always prefer validation that their ideas and opinions are flawless have chosen to live in an echo chamber. They thrive on hearing their messages emanating from their vocal chords to proselytizing their wisdom to their indentured followers . . . and take tremendous GLEE hearing that message again and again and again as it echoes around the chamber they have created. In their world, there is but one voice . . . theirs and only theirs. There are no other valid opinions or ideas. They are egotists! The only feedback … (3 comments)

sethgodin: Is your marketing creating the change you desire? - 02/28/19 07:22 AM
“When you’re marketing change, you’re offering a new emotional state, a step closer to the dreams and desires of your customers, not a widget.”(From This Is Marketing by Seth Godin page 78) 4 pages later, he offers some sage advice to REALTORS entitled: “No one is happy to call a real estate broker”. I’m not going to type the 4 pages . . . You’re gonna have to get yourself a copy of the book to get the full text – and no – Seth is not paying me to promote his book.
I will, though, offer some very sound bytes of knowledge:
“It’s our … (4 comments)

sethgodin: As we wait for the right time . . . Monday Morning Coffee - 01/28/19 08:20 AM
Greetings from Barry! For several years, I published a “Monday Morning Coffee” each and every Monday . . . and then it ceased.
Why did it cease?
I’m not sure I know the answer, but I am sure that it was a good thing that perished because of the “Opportunity Cost” of taking the time to write it every Monday Morning.
Well . . . It’s BACK!
In mid December 2018, I was putting the finishing touches on my goals for 2019 when it occurred to me that this Monday Morning Coffee was useful during the many years I dutifully published … (4 comments)

sethgodin: When people say this cannot be done . . . Don’t listen! - 11/30/18 09:31 AM
When I joined the ranks of Real Estate Sales Professionals, there was very little sales training available. The year was 1993 – no internet yet.
Our MLS listings were published bi weekly – Yes – HUGE Telephone book (remember those?) sized books.
My first Broker assigned me to a desk with a phone and said: “Good luck!”
Within a few days, it was clear to me that the phone wasn’t going to ring unless I did something to make it ring.
All of the incoming calls came in to the Brokerage (Yes! ALL inquiries on listings came into the firm’s main … (3 comments)

sethgodin: Let’s not question IF - 02/14/17 10:41 AM
If we do all this, we’ll succeed.   So, how sure are you that you CAN “do all this?”   What if you don’t do all this and fail to succeed?   Even more weighty” What if you DO do all this and fail to succeed?   I’ll venture to say that most failure is not due to lack of effort or desire or talent or intelligence or manual dexterity.   Most often, failure is a direct by-product of lack of commitment from the start.   Let’s worry less about “If” and focus on “WHEN.”   Bring it with confidence:   … (1 comments)

sethgodin: Just in case you've fallen off the wagon - 01/09/17 11:10 AM
It's January 9, and I just heard that most people break their New Year Resolutions by the 4th -
YES . . . Most people don't even make it 4 days without falling off the wagon. We all need all the help we can get when it comes to making positive change within ourselves because it takes consistent and persistent effort to break our bad habits and replace them with better ones.  I thought I would share a few things I'm doing that you might like to do yourself. Both of these programs I mention below are awesome, and I hereby invite you … (0 comments)

sethgodin: Thrilling YES! but does it MATTER? - 02/01/16 10:58 PM
Many many many keynote and motivational speakers talk a LOT about what matters. I talk a LOT about what matters and the importance of staying tuned in on more of that and squander less energy on the stuff that doesn’t!
Prevalent in my thinking and writing is reference to “The Vital Few” . . . the small minority of people, things, action, pursuits that matter more than “the trivial many.”
We don’t want to be “average and plain vanilla” and we LOVE to think that our work will have a positive impact for the people in our lives . . . … (1 comments)

sethgodin: T minus 4 and Counting down - 12/27/15 12:18 AM
Are you thinking about doing something radically different in 2016? Here we are 4 days from the the New Year, and I’m putting the screws to noodling around my successes and failures in 2015 . . . and imagining how things might/can be different in 2016.
What I’m learning about myself and my trajectory is that I keep coming back to remembering my core personal values and the fundamental principles upon which I launched Pareto Realty a mere 5 years ago. Most of these come from an amalgamation of learnings from Open Space Technology (My father Harrison Owen‘s “Discovery”), The FourFold Way (A La Angeles Arrien), The Pareto … (14 comments)
