horse capital of the world: How the Ocala/Marion County, FL Horse Industry Started with a Rose - 02/18/15 11:30 PM
The Ocala, FL Horse Industry Started with a Rose?
Yes, it is true.
We have a gentleman by the name of Carl Rose to thank for our thriving equine industry in Marion County, Florida.  In 1939, Carl Rose built Rosemere Farm on land that would eventually become home to the College of Central Florida and Paddock Mall.
I wonder he had a crystal ball to envision just how much the horse industry would mean to our area three-quarters of a century later?

Ocala Horses Star in Hunger Games movie
Another feather in Ocala and Marion County's Horse Capital Cap!
"When Lionsgate Films contacted Tom Warriner almost two years ago about the herd of black Friesians he oversees at the Grand Oaks Resort and Museum in southern Marion County, he never thought two of them, Dieuwe and Tristan, would play prominent roles in the recent released film “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”

horse capital of the world: Disney World in Ocala? - 11/26/13 02:24 AM
Disney World in Ocala?
"Consider Disney World in Ocala, the Ocala Philharmonic Orchestra, or the Ocala Magic playing in the Ocala Amway Center this weekend.
How about Universal Studios theme park off State Road 200, and SeaWorld Ocala not much further out, with an international airport hauling in tourists by the thousands each year?
It could have been.
On Nov. 20, 1963, Walt Disney flew in his private plane to Tampa and drove to Ocala the next day to consider Marion County as the site of his next theme park: Disney World."
