My Wallpaper is a Reflection of My Love of Nature

Here is the photo on my Computer.

Here is the photo taken in Alaska at a salmon hatchery and it is on my iPad.

Rain in Southern California is a Welcome Site for Most

Yesterday we had a rain storm that came in slow but dropped over 1/2 inch within 4 hours. It was a happy site as the hills will stay green longer and I turned off my sprinkers for the next 5 days.

The poor birds were trying to take cover during the unexpected rain storm. Even after the storm this poor bird sayed under the tree for hours.
But the hummingbirds were happy and out buzzing and dancing in the air.

Thanks for Reading my Real Estate Blog......and I'm thankful for the rain.

Dancing in the Rain...Hummingbirds
A few days ago we had a big rainstorm and most of the birds go off and take cover until the rain stops. But of course the hummingbirds visit my two feeders every day, over and over and even after it gets dark so why would a little rain stop them. Here they are dancing in the rain!

Found an Active Bird Nest While Showing Property

My clients and I were looking at a home yesterday and in the backyard we found an adorable mother bird sitting on her eggs. Here is the picture of the nest when we first walked outside.

Here is a close-up of the Mourning Dove. We oohed and awed over the bird in the nest but quickly left so we wouldn't scare her.

During the Winter Months, Do Not Forget to Feed the Birds

I live in Southern California but even here, the food for birds becomes scarce during the cold winter months. I try to feed the backyard birds and also the hummingbirds who stay for the winter. Last winter, 2013-2014, when there was only about 10 homeowners in my neighborhood so we did not have many birds but this year we have over 50 homeowners and many birds stuck around for the winter.

I have some bird photos here from the Cornell Bird of Ornithology site.

Look Who is Drinking in the Rain
We had a big storm this weekend and while looking outside my window, I saw this poor hummingbird drinking in the pouring rain.

The little bird kept coming back over and over for a half hour or more. I was fasinated to see it even laying on the feeder as he/she was probably soaked to the skin.

Red Hawk on the Golf Course...Run

It was reported on Thursday night that at the Huron Hills Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Michigan between the 10th and 18th Hole, golfers have been attacked by a Red Hawk. Apparently there is a hawk's nest up in a big Oak tree nearby and the hawk is just being very protective.

In the past couple of weeks, two other golfers have been attacked but everyone has recovered and the hawk and her young will probably leave the nest in the next 4 weeks.

High Tech Toll Collection for ALL Drives Starts Wed May 14, 2014 in OC
Irvine, CA.......Beginning today, Wednesday 14, 2014, Orange County Transportation Corridor Agencies announced that only Fast Trak drivers will be able to ride on the toll roads.
87% of all toll users have a fast trak pass and only 13% use cash. It has been determined that it slows the traffic down and a very inefficient system. Over 250,000 drivers use the toll roads daily in the Orange County area.
OC Transportation Agency is hopeful that all drivers will use the Fast Track or Express Account pass which … (2 comments)

The Big Hawk on the Lamp Post
Today while driving home to Loma Linda, CA, I saw a Red Hawk on the light post. Then this tiny little bird stopped on the post. They both sat there for a minute and then the Hawk flew off. Amazingly enough, the little bird chased after the Hawk.

They both flew into a huge tree and never fly out....... Not sure what to make of that. Could they be friends?

Cute Little Striped Birds Taking Over My Neighborhood
Killdeer Shorebird Species Not Near Water

This shorebird you can see without going to the beach. They are graceful plovers common to lawns, golf courses, fields and sometimes even in parking lots. They run on the ground in short spurts and seem to stop to check their progess. They prefer insects popping up so always on the lookout. If they are startled, they will fly off in a circular motion but not too far but move out of the line of percieved danger and then start walking on the ground again. They … (18 comments)

ASICS LA Marathon - From the Stadium to the Sea
This morning I watched the ASICS LA Marathon on TV that started at Doger's Stadium and ended at Santa Monica. It was so exciting and remember the feeling when I used to go the night before and run the marathon myself. Those days are gone with my bad knees now I just walk instead and watch the marathon on TV instead.

This morning the winners were not so clear cut as usual as no one knew for sure until the end who would win. The "Elite Male" group was down from … (4 comments)

birds: Beautiful Blue Jays in California - 02/16/14 12:36 PM
Beautiful Blue Jays in California
Western Scrub-Jays are very loud and protective of their nests. Also they bury food and have the ability to remember where they have buried the items, often weeks later.

The Jays usually know where all the birds of prey have their nest. Just before dusk, they will stand nearby and make a big fuss if there is an owl or hawk sleeping. Just before the bird of prey wakes up, they run off and hide. Such a comical feat for such a little Blue Jay.

This little bird gets mad every time I show … (6 comments)

How about 1 bird?

How about 2 birds?

Well, how about 8 birds?
And guess why they are huddled up there....a Red-Tailed Hawk who is lurking over the area looking for a treat? Do they think safety in numbers will save them? Maybe......
