birds: Canada Geese are Creatures of Habit - 09/11/12 08:14 AM
Canada Geese are Creatures of Habit

·       The Canada Goose originated in the Artic area and generally lives in Canada or North American areas.
·       They mate for life unless something happens to their mate and they tend to have a low divorce rate.
·       Both parents take care of the nest and the goslings.
·       The goslings stay with the parents for nearly a year.
·       They fly at dusk and will generally fly all night.
·       They like to fly in V formations and the experienced geese will take turns leading the flock. When flying overhead, spectators can … (12 comments)

Ribbet Photo Editor vs. iPiccy and a Few Other Good Picnik Replacements
When Picnik shut down I thought my world was coming to an end, at least to photo editing on my blogs. Anyone who photoblogs probably understands how I felt. Of course there is a lot of software editing programs like Photoshop but they cost money.
Since then, I have found several good options and all are free.
iPiccy.com -  Good but not as many features as Picnik. I had been using this site until Kristine Ginsberg, Toni Weidman and William Johnson who are all Realtors on Activerain and blogged about Ribbet. I am … (16 comments)

Buyers are like Birds; Feed them or they will Fly Away Forever!

Just remember you need to feed your buyers. This means you need to contact them daily, set them up with a lender to get prequalified, constantly send them comps to view on the internet, and take good care of them or….they will fly away forever. If they call you, you need to return their calls immediately and help them all the way through the transaction with problems and/or questions.

birds: What do you call a group of hummingbirds? - 09/02/12 05:10 AM
This is what I call a packed feeder. This is one of the newer hummingbird feeders and the birds sure seem to be enjoying it. Great job of feeding the birds during their long migration David.
What do you call a group of hummingbirds?
Well in my opinion how about rare! In amazement and a stop on the way to the top of Mt Evans, CO my kids got my attention as they said "dad look at that there are like 10 hummingbirds all on one feeder"! I didnt believe it until I saw it myself and this is a great reason … (12 comments)

Welcome to the ‘City of Angeles’

This week we had to drive to Los Angeles International Airport at peak traffic time to drop off one of my kids. It was a nice drive, not much traffic and when we arrived, the sun was just going down. I am always intrigued by the LAX sign so we drove by it several times trying to get the perfect shot.

It is an amazing airport and at all times about 8-10 planes were lined up to land. About 1 per minute or less but I am told they have 2 … (16 comments)

birds: Hang up Bird Feeders during Fall Migration Aug-Dec ...Save The Birds - 08/31/12 09:09 AM

Keep Your Bird Feeders Well Stocked during Fall Migration Aug-Dec

This year's bird migration is complicated by the lack of natural wildflowers, which have been hit hard by drought and forest fires. So birds that are looking about for their usual food sources are heading elsewhere. Large numbers of birds are swarming feeding stations set up in gardens and backyards in drought areas.

Some hummingbird species fly 2,000 miles during migration. And with a heart rate of up to 1,200 beats per minutes, they often need to eat five times their body weight, every day. … (11 comments)

birds: Hummingbirds in Loma Linda - 08/25/12 01:40 AM
Hummingbirds in Loma Linda

I used to have one hummingbird feeder but due to such aggressive behavior I added a second one.

They still buzz around and chase each other but lately we have seen some peace in the yard. Here is one on the left side of the peach tree.

And here is the other hummer in the tree .....at the same time.

Here they are together 'staring' at each other.  Not sure if we have peace or just a standoff.

And they are off to the bird feeders again.

birds: A Visitor at My New Water Fountain - 08/18/12 08:51 AM
Visitors at My Water Fountain

Last week we had our water fountain moved, cleaned and turned on again. Since then, the birds have been enjoying it too. Last night, I filled all the bird feeders (5) and this morning birds were everywhere. They were all taking turns flying in the fountain as it was already 90 degrees and quickly rising.

Then I noticed 3 new birds but did not get a picture of them all together…..Darn. I was not sure if they were Yellow Warblers or Lesser Goldfinches. The experts at birdforum.net think they are Lesser Goldfinches. I … (16 comments)

Pretty Peacocks

This peacock is called the Indian Peafowl and is the national bird of the Republic of India.

Peacocks are actually called peafowl. Males are called peacocks and females are called peahens. Babies are called peachicks.

The male peacock is one of the largest flying birds. Their total length can reach near 8 feet; about 3 feet for the body and about 5 feet for the tail (train). Peacocks weigh about 9-13 pounds. Females are not as colorful and much smaller

Peacocks are ground feeders. They eat plant parts, flower petals, seed … (23 comments)

birds: Beautiful Beach Birds - 07/22/12 04:44 AM

I am always fascinated by the beauty at the beach. The beauty of the shoreline is speechless, the waves and the sand so lovely and relaxing and the birds make the experience so entertaining. Anywhere you live near the coast, you can visit the beach within about 45 minutes or less. Thinking about a move to a warmer and milder area, Southern California is lovely and the weather is warm year round.

Real Estate is Like Flowers Surprises Pop Up Unexpectedly

This morning when I went outside, I noticed the lily I had transplanted was blooming. This was a nice surprise as I did not expect it. It made me think about my real estate career and never knowing what might pop! Look how lovely my flower looks.

This flower reminded me of selling real estate. Have you ever noticed that every transaction has a little problem during escrow? You think you have seen it all and know all the answers and then…….escrow calls and says “we have a problem” … (8 comments)

2 Good Editing Sites and they are FREE.
As most of you know, PICNIK is closing on April 19th so we have to find an alternative. If you are still looking for a fairly simple and free site, I have found a couple.

I have begun using iPiccy and it is a good substitute. It does not include all the stickers and is limited on the framing choices but still it is quite efficient.

♪♪♪  Up In the Treetops…a Big Surprise  ♪♪♪

Today it was cool and cloudy so I knew the big birds would be out hunting. I went to the rural area where I sometimes see owls and hawks.

First, I see a big owl and to my surprise it is not hidden within the branches as usual.

After a few pictures, he flew off but I did manage to get a picture of him leaving.

He swept down into the orange groves and about 30 seconds later, I hear “who-who-who” so I guess he found … (12 comments)
