birds: It's a Rainy Night in California - 03/19/12 04:30 AM

I have a pair of turtle doves that live in my backyard and their nest is on my roof. They are so cute and are always together. I thought at first they were pigeons but found out they were “Turtle Doves” and sometimes called Mourning Doves. They get along with the backyard birds, are not aggressive and do not make a mess like pigeons. Here they are huddled on the fence trying to hide from the hail storm we were having.

birds: Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head - 03/19/12 04:16 AM
Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head

Here on the West Coast, we have been experiencing rain storms in the past few weeks. Unfortunately our water levels are still only half way so I hope we continue to get more or we will have a drought this summer. Here are some pictures of our latest rain.

Rain does not keep up from conducting business so here I am driving to Rancho Cucamonga to show property on Sunday afternoon.

I got this picture near the Ontario Airport at the Ontario Auto Center. It still amazes me how such … (16 comments)

birds: A La Minute is the Newest Ice Creamery in Redlands, CA...Give Your Taste Buds a Thrill - 03/18/12 02:44 PM

The à la Minute is a new ice creamery located in the downtown area, 19 Citrus Ave, Redlands, CA. This store is very unique because at à la Minute they make your ice cream when you order it, freezing the ingredients with liquid nitrogen.

The ordering process is very fast so you are not standing in line more than a minute or two. But then the waiting for your ice cream is so much fun as watching them prepare the orders, the frost coming from the big mixers and presenting the orders to the waiting customers…so yummy and … (6 comments)

birds: Oh Nuts...Nuts and Nuts Everywhere - 03/16/12 07:15 AM

Oh Nuts...Nuts and More Nuts Everywhere!!
This morning while driving in Loma Linda, CA, I was noticing all the birds flying, the squirrels jumping on the trees and all the sounds coming from outside my window. Here was a cute little fellow eating nuts.

Then in a huge tree about 300 Feet High I noticed this bird. Not sure if it is an owl or a hawk but it was huge. I took one picture but it flew off as I tried to get a better one.

Sunset on the Beach…a Huge Fireball in the Sky.

Yesterday we went to Los Angeles County and ended up at Manhattan Beach for an early dinner. I took some pictures on the beach at Sunset.

The pier was full of visitors and lots of excitement.

This is the lifeguard stand. I take pictures of any building with the American flag on top.

We then drove down to Palos Verdes as the sun was starting to set.

Here the sun glowed like a fireball. The colors were so beautiful reflecting off the water that it was almost … (10 comments)

birds: Did Spring Come Early For You Too! - 03/05/12 02:35 PM
Did Spring Come Early For You Too!
Today, while hiking I saw many signs of spring popping up all over; Buds on the trees, bulbs pushing up out of the ground for Easter time, Small flowers on once dormant plants, and nature just buzzing around all excited.

I saw this June Bug buzzing around the peach tree.

This brightly colored Finch sitting in a tree just posing for a picture.

Is it time for this little guy to go swimming? No, not yet!

birds: What is Hiding Behind the Light Post? - 03/02/12 04:08 AM
What is Hiding Behind the Light Post?
While sitting in my office and looking out the window towards the beautiful hills of Loma Linda, CA I notice something moving behind this light post that is taller than any of the two story homes in this area.

No maybe not?

Well, there is a tail!

Now I see you. What is on the top of the light post? An orange?

This area has many orange groves and the birds like to find the oranges and carry them around for snacks.

Good-Bye. He left the orange but … (12 comments)

birds: Look What the Cat, no the Dogs Drug Into the House - 03/01/12 07:24 AM
Look What the Cats  no Dogs Drug Into the House.
These pictures were taken in San Bernardino County, city of Loma Linda. My three dogs are so sweet, play in the backyard, chase the birds, and hang out by the bird feeders. Here are two of them sunning themselves.

but....look what the dogs drug into the house this morning!

They were so excited when I started screaming and yelling so they dropped the rat and ran. My husband moved it out of the house and then I ran and got my camera. We put it outside to take a photo … (20 comments)

Would You Drive One of These Vehicles?
In the past month I have noticed some interesting vehicles on the road. I took a couple of pictures. I thought they were all three so cute!

This cute scooter is in the window at Leroy's in downtown Redlands, CA.

This bike I took in traffic a couple of weeks ago in Newport Beach.

This little scooter I saw at Dana Point. So Cute and it even has windshield.

And this last one reminds me of the "Chips or "Bay Watch" show.

birds: The Little Yellow Bird - 02/27/12 06:00 AM
The Little Yellow Bird
This morning, while out on a nature walk, I noticed a storm is brewing and the birds are extremely upset. They are searching for food and a place to take cover before the storm. This bird is called a "yellow-Rumped Warbler".

Just before the huge gusts of winds came, I took pictures of these finches in my backyard.

I put up a new feeder several days ago and the birds just noticed the feeder hanging there this morning.

These birds look like they are trying to hold despite the wind gusts. It is really … (18 comments)

birds: Walking in the Sand - 02/24/12 01:11 AM
Walking in the Sand….at the Beach
When I go to the beach, I think about many things in my past. First of all, I think of "The Beach Boys" and "Jan and Dean". They sung all those beach songs and then there were the beach movies with Annette Funicello, Sandra Dee, and Frankie Avalon. Oh, they were so much fun to watch and when we would go to the beach, we felt like we were part of that lifestyle...how fun to be young. Of course we cannot forget Elvis Presley and Ann Margaret with the Hawaii movies.

So many … (18 comments)

birds: I'm on Top of the World - 02/20/12 03:40 AM
I adore birds of all species and really like "Backyard Birds" as they are everywhere and fill our yards with sweet songs. I took this picture in Rancho Cucamonga, CA at the Victoria Gardens Mall.

I recently read where the backyard birds are slowly disappearing all over the world due to drought and climate changes, pesticides, wildlife diseases, natural hazards, radiation poisoning, and predators. Very sad!

I could not imagine going outside and not hearing the singing of birds. They are so sweet and just make nests and find food to survive. It would be very sad to not hear them singing … (12 comments)

birds: I Saw A Yellow Bird - 12/30/11 06:02 AM

©I Saw A Yellow Bird©
Yesterday, I took a few hours off to go look for interesting birds in Redlands, CA. I found this bird hiding in the trees and it was very much camouflaged. I got a couple of photos before he flew away. He was making all kinds of noise; not sure if he was on alert or singing.

I determined that it is probably a “Yellow-rumped Warbler”.

I had never seen this bird species before. It is very pretty but blended into the trees nicely so it made it hard to get a … (22 comments)

birds: My First Red Tailed Hawk Siting - 12/23/11 04:31 AM
My First Red Tailed Hawk
I was so excited yesterday as I noticed this huge hawk sitting on my back fence. I went to get my camera but he spotted something to eat in the neighbor’s yard and he was gone in a flash! I went out front and there he was just sitting in my tree....waiting for me to take his picture!
He let me take about 10 photos and then flew off…..never to be seen again.

I like how you can see the white on tip of his tail feathers.

He was sitting so still for me. I … (18 comments)

birds: Blue Bird Come Out of the Tree - 12/20/11 11:05 AM
Today, while driving home from our office meeting and ALC meeting, I stopped at the Lowe’s parking lot in Redlands, CA. Recently, I noticed the birds seem to hang around there. As I was waiting, a blue bird flew by and sat on the curb beside me. I was so excited but unfortunately missed that great first shot. But I did get some other good ones.

Get out of the tree so I can take your picture!

Just sitting there posing for me.

Flew down to the sidewalk but he is now hiding; you can only see his head.
