We have had some really cold weather this winter and these plants have continued to grow and not freeze even in the snow one morning in January. Most of my other plants did freeze so this seems to be a really hearty plant. And the blooms are beautiful and remind me of pinwheels.

I live in Southern California but even here, the food for birds becomes scarce during the cold winter months. I try to feed the backyard birds and also the hummingbirds who stay for the winter. Last winter, 2013-2014, when there was only about 10 homeowners in my neighborhood so we did not have many birds but this year we have over 50 homeowners and many birds stuck around for the winter.

Look Who is Drinking in the Rain We had a big storm this weekend and while looking outside my window, I saw this poor hummingbird drinking in the pouring rain.
The little bird kept coming back over and over for a half hour or more. I was fasinated to see it even laying on the feeder as he/she was probably soaked to the skin.

Will not charge and will not open so it had to be sent out for repairs after we paid $83 for a new adapter since the tech was sure that was what was wrong. We went out the other night and drove through Calimesa and lights were everywhere. And not just a row of lights across the eaves or a lit snowman (like my house) but hundreds of lights and so colorful and bright.
