Rocky Raccoon says It's Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Cold Outside
A couple of days ago we were having a severe rainstorm and extreme chill. My friend has a raccoon that she has nicknamed "Rocky'. He frequents her backyard to eat the cat food but Friday night it wanted to come in from the cold and rain.
Luckily, she had the cat door locked as this raccoon has been inside before and I am sure it wanted to find a nice warm house and some delicious cat food. This raccoon doesn’t seem to bother the two cats and she tells me … (16 comments)

We are all experiencing severe cold weather across the nation so here are a few reminders so everyone stays safe and healthy. Be Safe!
Outside:
Avoid overexertion, such as shoveling heavy snow, pushing a car, or walking in deep snow. Sweating could lead to chill and hypothermia. My Green Hummer is Camouflaged
Hummingbirds are the smallest bird and can hover in mid air by flapping their wings 12-80 times per second. They are the only bird that can fly backwards. They can fly at speeds up to 34 mph.
They prefer nectar from feeders and flowers but if the sugar level is less than 10%, they will pass it up. Nectar doesn’t give them enough nutrients so they eat insects and spiders as their main source.

Landlords & Tenants-Tenants Must Now Be Notified of Notice of Defaults
A new California law that went into effect January 1, 2013, requires landlords to provide disclosure to prospective tenants of a Notice of Default recorded on the property they are trying to rent/lease. The landlord must notify the prospective renters before the lease is signed. This law applies to single family homes and apartment building up to 4 units.
This new law, Civil Code Section 2924.85 is effective January 1, 2013 through January 1, 2018.

Congress reached a settlement in the “fiscal cliff” negotiations. As a result, the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act has been extended through Jan.1, 2014. The fiscal cliff deal extends it for another year; meaning homeowners who experience a debt reduction through mortgage principal forgiveness or a short sale are exempt from being taxed on the forgiven amount.

Squirrels at the Beach.....Looking for Food
Everyone sees birds but there are cute squirrels running about in the bushes too. This guy came out looking for a handout.
Malibu, CA is a lovely to go visit, take a walk, surf, bird watching or just feeding the squirrels.
I typically take bread crusts or cut up oranges as the squirrels and the birds both enjoy eating them.

A Surprise at Huntington Beach...Sandpipers
On New Year’s Day 2013, we spent some time at the beach. The weather was wonderful and not much activity here except for the birds.
Normally we see gulls and pigeons but much to my surprise these Stilted Sandpipers arrived and were busy eating worms and other delicacies in the sand.
They were very entertaining as the birds keep fighting over the food.

I Love Snowmen and Here’s a Little History
Is the ‘Snowman’ a Christmas decoration or does it stand for something else? You start seeing snowmen decorations in late November or early December and are usually stuffed snow people to decorate the house or are Christmas tree decorations so that would make you think it is a holiday character.
But I beg to disagree. When do you start seeing snowmen outside? Normally when the weather gets really cold and it snows.

Today, I was visiting the beach at sunset and thought how this was the last sunset of the year, 2012.
How lovely the beach was and very peaceful. The weather is nice here and driving to the beach or mountains only takes about 45 minutes from anywhere nearby.

I first saw this on the NBC news yesterday and was so inspired to look it up. Ann Curry, a News Anchor came up with this campaign “26 Acts of Kindness” to remember the 20 children and 6 adult victims of Newtown CT. by doing some acts of kindness. a) Furniture- Put any excess furniture in storage. If you have 5 TVs in your house, get rid of most of them and I bet some of them do not work. Put the TV in the family room. At Thanksgiving, we couldn’t agree on pie so at the end of the day, my husband ran to the store and bought a pumpkin and an apple. He hates pumpkin and I do not care for apple but the day came to a nice end with pie. Here was the article I wrote about it: We Couldn't Agree on Pie.
