The Montery Aquarium made ice treats to give the otters. I have been to the Monterey Bay Aquarium but never at Christmas time. I would love to go and see this in person.  It is one of the most amazing places we have been to. I love nature and they have such a variety to see and a water petting area too.

Taking Hummingbird Photos with Smart Phones...Not

Yesterday I was picking up my dogs at 'Doggy Day Care' and this hummingbird was right beside me buzzing around. I took 6 pictures with my smart phone and 4 were missing the bird completely.

The top one shows the bird and the second one shows the edge of the bird on the left. I suggest that you always try to have your camera as smart phones are slower and I find that nature is quicker.

Note, it did not come out too bad but not up to my normal hummingbird … (22 comments)

An Egret is Living in Loma Linda this Winter

I saw him today at the Loma Linda Post Office but just couldn't pull over to get his picture. It looks like he is greeting the cars and doesn't seem scared at all. What a great bird to hang out all winter.

"Even the Birds say "On A Clear Day You Can See for Miles"

The hills of Calimesa are lovely this time of the year and the sky is clear and the hills are bluish purple. Even the birds stare at the mountains in awe. Look carefully in the tree and you will see a bird.

I like to try different techniques so these were taken in a rain storm the other night.I keep the flash on during the rain and it makes the picture pop out.

nature photography: Sunday is My Favorite Day of the Week - 07/07/13 12:24 PM
Sundays are My Favorite Days

Today I stayed home and did some gardening, took some pictures, and took care of a few repairs. It was a beautiful day and I really appreciated having the time to enjoy my backyard and nature. The birds, my dogs, the bees, and even a neighborhood cat stopped by to visit.

nature photography: Bears Invading Foothill Neighborhoods - 06/07/13 01:20 AM
Bears Invading Foothill Neighborhoods

Recently, we are hearing more about bears walking through the backyards and knocking the trash cans, going swimming in pools, and causing a lot of damage and destruction to scared residents. Plus small pets are at risk of being hurt or worse.

1.     Keep your trash cans put up and covered with locking lids. Most of the bears are looking for food as it has been very dry and there is a shortage of food in the hills.

2.    Keep your cans cleaned out after trash pick-up. Authorities suggest using Ammonia or … (10 comments)

My Bird’s Nest is Empty this Morning as They Finally Learned to Fly

We had a family of Black Phoebe birds build a mud nest up in the eaves of our backyard. It has been so exciting to watch them build the nest, sit on it, hear the chirping, finally see the chicks and then to watch them grow.

Week 1- Building the nest by the mom and dad both.

Bird with Coat of Many Colors

Yesterday while driving in Redlands, CA. I came across this Red Hawk perched up in a tall tree just sitting there. The Hawk ignored me while I took my pictures and then without a sound swooped down to get a snack.
I think these birds are so fascinating and in quiet areas, you can hear them squawking for a mile. Amazing birds and so beautiful.

Try Ribbit’s New Eraser Tool…it’s Great!

This week Ribbit introduced the Eraser Tool. Now you can easily delete areas from layers, textures, frames and stickers! That means it's now easy to add another person to a photo, and to customize textures, stickers and frames by deleting areas you don't want.

So last night I had to practice doing this and watch the video twice but it is pretty simple and so cool to be able to add people or pets into a picture.

First add both pictures into the Upload area. Click on the main … (16 comments)

Hummingbirds ……Buzzing in My Yard Finally

I am a real advocate for hanging bird feeders in your yard; the more the better but have never had a hummingbird feeder until last week. I hung it up and not one hummingbird. I hung ribbons and put flower pots below and finally they arrived last night. I am very happy as I love the little hummingbirds.

Animals Can Act Just Like Kids Sometimes!
Today will walking in Loma Linda and Redlands, CA, I came across these birds sitting on this old barn. They were very intriguing so I stayed to watch. There is an orange grove surrounding the barn. See for yourself what happened
Just a peaceful day sitting on the fence. First there are two birds.

Now there are three birds. One flies off immediately and then there is two.

This one spots oranges and flies in and knocks one down to the ground.

Yummy, look what I have? A tasty orange.

nature photography: Did You Know You Cannot Just Remove a Bird Nest? - 11/14/11 12:01 PM

©Did You Know You Cannot Just Remove a Bird Nest?©
These bird nest photographs were taken in the Inland Empire in CA.
While looking up some info on removing bird nests I came across some interesting Federal laws. Did you know that you cannot just remove most bird nests? I didn't so I “Googled” Bird Nests and come up with some interesting reading.

The Federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918 prohibits the trapping, possession, or killing of most birds, their eggs and nests, without a permit.

Many people do not know that the Migratory Bird Treaty Act makes … (18 comments)
