Mother Nature has a way of Landscaping with Sunflowers

I just love to see sunflowers growing in fields, along the side of the road or off to the side of the railroad tracks.

The dull earthtones are perked up with the bright yellow faces shining up at the sun.

A few months ago I had one grow from some bird seed and it lasted for a  month or more.

Yolanda Gilbert has been a Realtor in Katy, Texas for over 25 years and has been selling new homes for over 9 years. She sells homes in Cinco Ranch, a community of katy, Texas.

I enjoy reading her blog as she writes about wildlife and nature, shows many interesting photos of places she visits, and many localism posts about the community she lives and works in.

Myrl Jeffcoat, an ActiveRain member who recently hit her 1,00,000 points is such a valuable asset to our network. She is always posting such great localisms about her community and interacts in the pictures in her blog. She bicycles and shows us a lot of scenery the average person might never get a chance to see.
Since she lives in the state capital area, she keeps us apprised of any big news events going on there.

Moving is Stressful....Don't Let Anyone Tell You Otherwise

I moved this week and had plenty of time to research the movers, buy boxes and pack up the house, but was I ready when they pulled up bright and early at 8:00 am. Nope! I still had about 10 boxes to pack in the kitchen and I thought it would take the two guys most of the morning to load but they showed up with 3 guys and like busy bees were loading faster than I could get my last few boxes packed. Of course, I had to show them … (8 comments)

real estate: What Goes Up Must Come Down - 10/26/13 02:45 AM
What Goes Up Must Come Down.....
I am packing so I have been moving boxes up and down the stairs. The heavy ones I slide down the carpeted stairs and it works nicely. After a few tries, I realized it was easier to tape and label at the bottom so I would just continue to slide the boxes down until this happened last night.

So I spent the next few minutes picking up all the shoes and putting them back into the box and taping it shut. I have now gone back to taping upstairs before sliding the boxes down.

Home is Where you Get that Warm & Fuzzy Feeling

One of our first memories as a child is where we lived, our family members, our pets and our stuff.

It can be a big house, a small house, an apartment but usually has at least 4 walls and a roof and is a place we go for shelter and usually to eat.

The History of Scarecrows
The History of Scarecrows

Hungry birds have always been a problem and they eat the crops in the fields. The first recorded history of Scarecrows were over 2500 years ago when the Egyptians and Greeks put them in their fields to protect the wheat from large flocks of quail and other hungry birds.
Immigrants who moved to the United States during the 1800s brought with them a variety of ideas for making scarecrows. In Pennsylvania, German farmers built human looking scarecrows called a bootzamon or bogeyman. His body was a wooden cross and his head was a … (28 comments)

Hunter's Full Moon October 18, 2013- Spectacular
Hunter's Full Moon October 18, 2013- Spectacular

October is the month of the Full Hunter's Moon.
This is the first Full Moon following the Harvest Moon last month.
Some Native American tribes referred to this Moon as the Full Hunter's Moon, as it was the time to go hunting in preparation for winter.
It rises around sunset and sets around sunrise, the only night in the month when the Moon is in the sky all night long. The picture I took was at 5:45 am this morning.
This full Moon is … (8 comments)
