How Will the Government Shutdown Effect Real Estate Transactions

This message came up on the WhiteHouse.gov site tonight.
Today the National Association of Realtors sent out an email today summarizing how this current government shutdown could affect the closing of many of our transactions. Here is a summary below and frankly some of these I had not considered.
Internal Revenue Service: The IRS is closed and has suspended the processing of all forms, including requests for tax return transcripts (Form 4506T). While FHA and VA do not require these transcripts, they are required by many lenders for many kinds of loans, … (4 comments)

My Pet Flying Soon....Need Pet Carrier Recommendation
Yes, the time has come for us to let our dog Gidget go live with my daughter as it is her dog and we have been keeping her for 3 years. She has been in school and is now moving to a larger place that allows pets. I am so heartbroken but need to get her ready to fly.

So, we are doing the custody transfer in late December and decided we should buy her an approved dog carrier that the airline will allow under the seat. So we went to our local Petco in Beaumont, … (8 comments)

The One Thing To Keep Your Real Estate Business Alive
Since I started in real estate, I have heard from 3 separate and successful brokers, several office managers, many Motivational Speakers & Coaches, and handfuls of Top Producers.

Everyone has their own opinion of what we should do to keep our busness alive and how to make a profit. The ABC's of making a living at real estate and the ins and outs. Some experts claim the internet is the only way to stay successful, where others say farming and post cards are the way to keep yourself busy with … (9 comments)

Things to Consider Before Buying New Trees for your Yard
When trying to decide what trees to select to put into your yard, there are things to consider.
Do you want a tree that will lose its leaves in the fall and winter? If you live in a cold climate, will the tree adapt to the cold weather? Or if you live in a hot climate, will the tree survive the heat? Does the tree have big roots that could crack the cement if planted near a walkway, patio or pool? Though many trees are pretty, do you really want the … (5 comments)

Someone Recently Told Me to Read a Book…OK Activerain I am Reading

I prefer mysteries and find a lot of good shows on TV so for fun I watch medical shows that are soapy but interesting. TV entertains me while I am working on the computer at night. But I must confess that one of my favorite shows is “Haven” which is a sci-fi show involving a few not so normal characters living in a small coastal community in Maine.
The main reason I do not read much anymore because about half way through a book, I just figure … (10 comments)

Chinese Food Tonight with My New Skillet
I love to watch the food shows late at night while working and usually watch 'Iron Man' shows and I learn some of the new tricks to make cooking easier and more tasty.
About 6 months ago, Michael Symon was talking about using a rounded skillet instead of a squared off one since it will cook the food more evenly. That made so much sense to me and I seem to find it sticks on the bottom in the corners too. So we have been looking for a new skillet but I wanted … (7 comments)

A Tale of the Little Blue Scooter

My daughter got the bright idea in her third year of college (2010) to get a scooter to drive it to school. The idea was to save money and gas. This was something she conspired with her father so he took her to the Yamaha Dealer and bought her one. Plus she had to have a helmet and not just a plain one but one of those expensive ones with graphics all over it. Then it had to be insured.
Life seemed good for her and she was so … (12 comments)
