bradenton: South Florida Museum - 02/19/08 05:13 AM
Yesterday I visited the South Florida Museum in Bradenton.  This was the first time I had ever been there.  I can't believe I've missed out on such an interesting place for so long!  I've driven by it hundreds of times, yet never stopped in to check it out!
I was quite surprised at how big it really is.  There are actually 3 sections.  The South Florida Museum, the Bishop Planetarium and the Parker Aquarium.  All 3 are connected and you get to visit all of them when you pay the admission.
There was a lot to see there and I found it pretty interesting!  … (3 comments)

bradenton: Braden Castle Park - 12/18/07 03:58 AM
While out for a drive yesterday, I came across a tiny neat little neighborhood tucked away in North East Bradenton.  It's just off of Manatee Ave and 27th St E.  I just happened to glance up and saw a sign that said Historic Neighborhood with an arrow, so I quickly turned down the street and ended up in this neat little community.
It's a 55 and over community that sits where the Braden River meets the Manatee River.  The first thing I noticed were that the streets are only wide enough for one car to pass and these homes are pretty close to each … (5 comments)

bradenton: Lakewood Ranch becomes a postal address - 12/12/07 10:56 PM
It was confirmed on Wednesday by the U.S Post Office that Lakewood Ranch will now be recognized as a postal address.
Before, residents either had to select Bradenton or Sarasota, but now they are able to select Lakewood Ranch.  It has not been given it's own zip code yet, but I imagine that will be coming at some point.
Building on the new 24,000 sq ft Lakewood Ranch post office is underway and is set to open as early as October 2008.
Lakewood Ranch continues to grow in size and really is a city of it's own.  It is *huge*.  … (0 comments)

bradenton: Creekwood Residents Could Be Losing Their Swimming Pool - 08/03/07 11:53 PM
A recent survey was mailed out to the residents of the Creekwood Subdivision asking them if they want to keep their community pool or have it close down.  It also contained a repair list of costs totalling $100,000 to repair the pool.
Apparently when the pool was first constructed it was constructed poorly and the maintenance on the pool ever since has not been done properly by the company that was hired.
The pool has been closed off and on and was even closed through the entire summer last year.  If they close the pool, it will drastically lower their home values.  Many people … (0 comments)

bradenton: Possible Stand Alone Starbucks In Downtown Bradenton Is Brewing - 07/12/07 04:33 AM
The Bradenton Herald reports that there is a possibility that a stand alone Starbucks could be built in downtown Bradenton.
"As long as a special-use request passes city muster, a Starbucks store with outdoor seating and a drive-through will be built at the southeast corner of Manatee Avenue East and First Street, across the street from Manatee Memorial Hospital."
"The hospital's proximity and the daily volume of traffic passing through the intersection helped lure the national coffee retailer."
"An average of 79,500 vehicles per day drove through the intersection in 2006, according to traffic data from the Florida Department of Transportation."
Ok, now I know … (0 comments)

bradenton: Bradenton Area Beaches - 07/09/07 03:20 AM
The Islands just west of Bradenton have some of the most beautiful beaches around!  The water is a beautiful shade of green, the sandy beaches line the coastline and the sun is always shinning!
Anna Maria Island, Holmes Beach, Bradenton Beach and Longboat key make up what is known as "The Islands".  The Islands are a different world of their own.  If you haven't been there or you aren't familiar with the area, it's kind of hard to explain.  Once you cross the bridge from Bradenton onto the Islands, you just feel like you're in a different world.  Maybe it's because you see the … (4 comments)

bradenton: Bradenton Florida - 06/13/07 03:42 AM
Bradenton is located on the West Coast of Florida about an hour south of Tampa and is just north of Sarasota.  Bradenton offers a vast array of different types of housing.  There are condos within walking distance to the Gulf beaches, small bungalows just off the beaten path, yet are still close to the beaches, homes and condos located right on the beach, condos and homes located on the mainland that are a short drive to the beach, condos and homes that are close to downtown and everywhere else in between.  Whether you are looking for a single family home, condo, … (0 comments)
