Shopping, Schools, and Fine Dining are within Walking Distance, and there is quick access to the US 60 Freeway. Arizona is known for having an abundance of golf courses since the weather allows for year-round play. There are definitely a lot of great courses to play near the Val Vista Baseline Area, so residents have plenty to choose from! There is always something fun going on in the area. I live in the Val Vista Baseline Area myself, and I have always enjoyed how friendly the people are, the affordability of the homes, and the fact that everything is nearby. Trendy Downtown Gilbert is a 5-minute drive away, Old Town Scottsdale is only a 15-minute drive away, and Downtown Phoenix is only a half-hour drive away. Going to the airport, both Sky Harbor and Gateway are a 20-minute drive away or less. Some of my favorite restaurants in the area are MAD Greens, Nando's, Eegee's, Cafe Zupas, Costa Vida, Sauce, and Seafood Market & Restaurant. Need groceries? There are 2 stores within walking distance, so you can visit Safeway or AJ's Fine Foods. Want to go on a hike? There are amazing hikes in the Superstition Mountains, which are within a 15-minute drive, so if you want to go on one with me, let me know. Tennis anyone? I am an active tennis player and would welcome a match or showing a beginner how to play. If not, please feel free to reach out, and I will explain any that you weren't aware of, or perhaps you even know a better way for me to do what I have been doing!Some things that I have learned over the years that make life in the Rain a bit easier:Sharon Tara taught me long ago to create templates for my posts and just copy and paste the code for the base of all posts. This makes things incredibly easy to create new content, while not messing up the formatting needed for ActiveRain posts. I use it daily! Be nice always because there are many people in here who get offended easily, even when something factual is shared, haha. Don't be afraid to get personal about yourself; prospective clients really like that, and will reach out for assistance with their real estate needs! Long ago, I began a number of different "series" so that I would always know what I was going to blog about on any given day. It has kept me consistent, and I never worry about what I should blog about. Everyone can select a different topic to discuss on a daily basis and easily stay consistent with their blogging. Shopping, Schools, and Fine Dining are within Walking Distance, and there is quick access to the US 60 Freeway. Arizona is known for having an abundance of golf courses since the weather allows for year-round play. There are definitely a lot of great courses to play near the Val Vista Baseline Area, so residents have plenty to choose from! There is always something fun going on in the area. I live in the Val Vista Baseline Area myself, and I have always enjoyed how friendly the people are, the affordability of the homes, and the fact that everything is nearby. Trendy Downtown Gilbert is a 5-minute drive away, Old Town Scottsdale is only a 15-minute drive away, and Downtown Phoenix is only a half-hour drive away. Going to the airport, both Sky Harbor and Gateway are a 20-minute drive away or less. Some of my favorite restaurants in the area are MAD Greens, Nando's, Eegee's, Cafe Zupas, Costa Vida, Sauce, and Seafood Market & Restaurant. Need groceries? There are 2 stores within walking distance, so you can visit Safeway or AJ's Fine Foods. Want to go on a hike? There are amazing hikes in the Superstition Mountains, which are within a 15-minute drive, so if you want to go on one with me, let me know. Tennis anyone? I am an active tennis player and would welcome a match or showing a beginner how to play. ☕ Coffee Across The Miles with Mr. "Ha Ha" Brian England in AZ 🌵

This series of his is fun, and I encourage anyone who hasn't already participated to do so and get to know a good man in the Rain! ☕ Coffee Across The Miles with Brian England: Real Estate, Faith & ActiveRain One of my favorite things about Coffee Across The Miles is discovering how much more there is to someone than what we see through years of blog posts and comments. My recent Coffee Talk with fellow Rainmaker Brian England was a perfect example. I knew Brian through ActiveRain. I knew he was a longtime real estate professional, a man of strong faith, and someone who isn't afraid to participate in a spirited conversation. What I didn't know was the road that brought him here to Active Rain and to Real Estate. From Credit Cards to Contracts Brian entered real estate in 2010 after running a credit card processing business. When that chapter ended and the available job opportunities weren't exactly calling his name, a friend encouraged him to give real estate a shot. He took a 90-day real estate course, got licensed, joined his friend's brokerage and went to work. His first closing came roughly two months later. It wasn't a glamorous luxury listing. It was a $25,000 piece of land with a trailer on it. Every career starts somewhere. ☕ Brian soon discovered that even his abbreviated first year in real estate financially outperformed what he'd been doing before. Of course, gross income and actual income are two entirely different animals when you're self-employed. That led us into a conversation familiar to every veteran REALTOR®: commissions arrive irregularly, taxes don't care, expenses continue whether something closes or not, and some months feel wonderfully abundant while others suddenly teach you the beauty of budgeting. Real estate can offer tremendous opportunity, but it rewards financial discipline. Finding His Place in the Business Brian spent much of his career working with the same group of brokers who originally gave him his start. As his production increased, he adjusted his brokerage fee structure to fit the changing economics of his business. When those brokers later moved into vacation rental management, Brian moved with them. He eventually opened his own brokerage as well. What stood out to me wasn't simply the brokerage history. It was the loyalty behind it. Real estate companies, compensation models and logos change constantly. Good professional relationships have a much longer shelf life. Then We Talked ActiveRain Naturally, two longtime Rainmakers eventually started talking about ActiveRain. Brian joined ActiveRain in 2010 but, like plenty of members, didn't immediately jump into the deep end. I could relate. For many people, the word blogging initially sounds like we're supposed to sit down wearing a tweed jacket and produce literature. Then you realize you're basically having conversations, sharing experiences, answering questions and occasionally telling stories. That's when it gets interesting. Brian discovered something particularly valuable: writing about the things that genuinely mattered to him attracted people who valued those same things. One client even found him online after searching for a Catholic REALTOR®. That sparked one of my favorite parts of our conversation. The lesson isn't that everyone should start writing about religion. The lesson is authenticity. Your interests, experiences, hobbies, values and personality are not distractions from your real estate business. Quite often, they're exactly what helps someone decide they want to work with you instead of another perfectly qualified REALTOR®. There's More Than Real Estate Brian grew up in Globe, Arizona, a small town of roughly 5,000 to 6,000 people. He later attended the University of Arizona before earning his master's degree in business from St. John's University in New York. That's a pretty dramatic geographic progression. Small-town Arizona. Big university. Then New York City! FUN FACT: Brian England was actually born in Oxford, England, while his father was serving in the Air Force, which gave him both U.S. and British citizenship. His family story was equally interesting. Brian has three brothers with substantial age differences between them, including one 17 years younger. He described having an especially close relationship with his youngest brother and, in many ways, becoming a father figure to him. That's the kind of story you don't discover from somebody's market update. Faith, Tennis, Travel and Reading Brian's Catholic faith is a central part of his daily life. He attends Mass daily and even considers church locations and Mass schedules when he travels. That has developed into another natural extension of his blogging: sharing some of the beautiful churches he visits along the way. He also plays tennis and has become more intentional about reading, particularly the Bible, history, inspirational and educational books. We discovered we share a similar reading habit. Neither of us races through books simply to say we finished them. We're the annoying people with highlights, notes and passages we want to remember. 😄 Isn't It Time We Have A Coffee Talk? What Impressed Me Most About Mr. "Ha Ha" England Brian reminded me why these conversations are worth having. Online communities allow us to meet hundreds of people, exchange ideas, debate issues and build professional relationships across thousands of miles. But they're still incomplete pictures. An online comment might reveal someone's opinion. A blog may reveal their expertise. An hour-long conversation begins revealing the person. Brian and I also talked about some of the personalities, disagreements and occasional drama that naturally develop inside a community that's been around as long as ActiveRain. And perhaps that's another reason meeting face-to-face matters. People are almost always more nuanced than their online profiles. We'll get another opportunity soon because we're already talking about an upcoming California ActiveRain Meetup here in San Diego, December 2026. After all these years connecting online, sometimes the next logical step is simply getting everybody around the same table.
