austin homes: Tarrytown recent home sales and average price per square foot - 07/06/17 01:57 PM
Austin has several wonderful neighborhoods in the central part of town. One of my favorites is Tarrytown. The schools in this area also have a great reputation. You may determine this for yourself by visiting www.GreatSchools.com  or www.SchoolMatters.org.  There are numerous fantastic dining options and even some great shopping in the smaller boutiques. This neighborhood is primarily comprised of homes built in the 1920's to 1950's. However due to the age of some homes there has been a recent influx of new construction when the original homes are in too poor of a condition to simply remodel. Builders buy these "Scrapers" … (3 comments)

austin homes: Manchaca's interesting history, a quiet little town south of Austin Texas - 08/15/11 05:04 AM
Manchaca is a quiet little town just about 17 miles south of downtown Austin. You won't find much here except the "Railroad BBQ" joint and the post office. There are a couple of churches, and a man who carves tree stumps into Indians and a multitude of other things. The big claim to fame is the train passes through Manchaca on the way to Austin. It is also home to one of the most famous local arbortists who owns "Its about Thyme" Nursery, they have a great selection of native trees, shrubs and flowering plants. It is a small town community and … (0 comments)

austin homes: The Official Shrub of Texas is the gorgeous Crepe Myrtle! Also tips on how to properly trim/prune your Crepe Myrtle. - 06/30/11 06:33 AM
Here is a little known fact about Texas. Back in 1997 the Texas Legislature was so bored they decided we needed a State Shrub, and I don't mean George Bush. They named the beautiful Crepe Myrtle as our "state shrub". Crepe Myrtles also come in Dwarf varieties as well as full sized trees.

The great thing about Crepe Myrtles is they are a "native plant" so they thrive in our Texas heat. These plants are hardy, drought tolerant, and most impressively gorgeous! Crape myrtle, is a genus of around 50 species of deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs. It's … (7 comments)

austin homes: Help Austin conserve water and protect our quality of our drinking water. - 11/19/09 02:40 AM
As a longtime Austin resident I have long been a strong proponent of water conservation. There is a limited supply and we need to do what we can as individuals to save our dwindling natural resources. Until "water Desalinization" becomes less costly and more widely available we all need to take steps to reduce our water usage. Some people in Austin think because we have had a little rain in the last month that they can stop conserving. This is just plain wrong. One month of rain is not enough to pull us out of a multi-year drought. Conservation is still … (2 comments)

austin homes: Lake Austin has much to offer if your looking for a place to play on the water. - 11/13/09 04:10 AM
Austin Texas is the home of many great attractions both historical and natural. We have the Texas Capitol and two great lakes and Barton Springs. If you don't feel like driving thirty minutes to Lake Travis, Lake Austin might be the place for you. It is a narrow lake that works well for motor boats but is not so great for sailing. If you are a sailor you want to stay on Lake Travis and there are many marinas to choose from: Mansfield Marina, Rough Hollow Marina and Emerald Point Marina just to name a few. There are many waterfront homes with docks … (6 comments)

austin homes: Senate close to approving more tax credits. A GREAT THING! - 11/11/09 06:51 AM
This hot topic has been a daily conversation in our office. Reinae and I share an office at Keller Williams and the opinion that the tax credit extension and modification is a great thing for home buyers. The new version allows existing home owners to get $6500 to move up to a larger home. This segment of the home buying population was over looked in the first version. Now is a great time to buy a home or "move up"!

austin homes: The First time home buyers $8000 Tax Credit deadline may be extended! - 10/29/09 09:21 AM
My contacts at Gracy Title of South Austin just shared some great news. Granted this is something we have thought was in the works, but the powers that be had not announced anything until now. The program may be extended as it is today or it may have some modifications, that is yet to be decided. So if your unsure about waiting, the time to buy a home is now. In order to qualify for the tax credit you must: make no more than $75K a year, be a first time home buyer (if you have not owned a home in three … (3 comments)

austin homes: Its now raining in Austin Texas! Yippie Kyaeeee!! - 09/13/09 09:35 AM
Austin Texas has been and is still in a critical/extreme stage drought. This is the highest level of drought. Day before yesterday it started raining in the Austin area. We got about two inches the first day and five and a half inches yesterday.
Some people think that since it has rained that the drought is over. However they could not be more wrong. We are still in a drought, period. We are over 30 inches below average rainfall. Our lakes are all still critically low and all of the boat launches on Lake Travis have been closed for several weeks. … (2 comments)

austin homes: Looking for a new home for Porter a sweet Border Collie mix in Austin TX! - 09/06/09 02:58 AM
Help me find a new home for Porter. He is a very sweet well adjusted Border Collie mix. He is current on all of his shots and has a loving playful nature. His family is moving and can't take him to the new home. He is used to being able to roam on two acres, so a big yard would be nice, but its not mandatory. He is seven years old and loves to have his belly rubbed. He likes being where ever the people are as he is very social. If you can take home or if you know someone … (13 comments)
