homes: Everyone needs a home. Nature is no exception. Househunting is a spring event. - 02/07/12 02:52 AM
Today as I sipped my morning coffee on the back deck I heard lots of singing birds. Now this is not strange as I have several bird feeders and bird houses in my half acre yard. For five years I have had a family of Wrens that set up housekeeping on the backside of my temperature gage on the pack porch. What I did not expect was to be able to watch a pair of Carolina Wrens house hunting. One of the birdhouses that has been in my yard for ten years was under scrutiny. One of the Wrens was perched on the … (4 comments)

Living in Austin is a challenge getting around because so many people have moved here over the last 10-20 years and our roads are not handling the increased usage very well. So we have several road projects in the works for 2012. Many of these projects are slated to be completed this year, which will add more miles to our local roads since 2007 when the first toll roads were completed.

The Y at Oak Hill- This does not appear to be a Toll road yet, and this project has begun the preliminary work for the eventual expansion from two lanes … (0 comments)

homes: HOMEBUYERS 101-Why does the Listing Price Per Square foot matter? Why is it not the same as the Sold PPSF? Which number is more important? - 01/23/12 05:37 AM
As a Realtor I see homes every day, and the listing prices don't really register with me the way the price per square foot does. Sadly many home buyers don't know the difference. So I want to help home buyers be more informed. I always say "An educated buyer is an easy buyer to work with." So here are the basics about square foot prices.
Lets look at two homes in neighborhood X. We will assume they were built within a few years of each other and have similar level of finish out and similar sized lots. Both homes are priced at $300K, … (2 comments)

Austin is home to many desirable neighborhoods, some are close in and others are considered to be in the "burbs". There is something for everyone in Austin. Tarrytown is one of the more desirable and older neighborhoods that is only about 5-10 minutes to downtown. It is possible to bike or walk to many amenities and cafes or restaurants from Tarrytown. There is an abundance of great dining establishments like: Jeffrey's, Wink, Tambaleo, Food Food, Fabi & Rosi, Mozart's, Able's on the Lake, and of course Maudie's. The Lions Municipal Golf Course has been a longtime draw for many of the residents. The … (0 comments)

homes: Holiday Safety Tips that make sense all year! - 12/22/11 11:16 AM
I love the holidays because there are twinkling lights everywhere and people are a little nicer to one another than the rest of the year (if you avoid crowded mall parking lots!)  Here are a few household tips to help keep your pets and home safe over the holidays.

All the decorations and lights mean lots of extension cords and overworked electrical outlets. So make sure to replace your extension cords every few years. An easy way to know how old the cord is to place a band of duct tape around one end and write the purchase date on it … (5 comments)

homes: Marelli Classic Car Driving Tour in Austin 2011-Hill Country Triumph Club - 12/16/11 06:09 AM

Last year at this time, we had great fun and made some great new friends at the Bastrop Veterans Day Car Show.  A truly huge event with 400+ cars, a military fly-over and other activities saluting our Vets, and much more.  We pre-registered for this year’s event since we had such a great time last year.  Soon we discovered a conflict in our calendar.  The Bastrop Veterans Day Car Show happened at the same time the Austin Lucas/Marelli Driving Tour was happening.  Hmmm, another car show, or DRIVING??  We chose the tour, and boy are we glad we … (0 comments)

Many people living in condos or apartments have trouble housebreaking their puppies. It can be a challenge living with limited access to green space for your puppy to frequently go potty. It is endorsed by the American Kennel Club. This product allows your puppy to have a safe spot to go do their business in the house and not get in trouble. It also mimics real grass so your training them in a … (0 comments)

homes: Things to do around Texas during the holidays 2011 - 12/02/11 06:28 AM
Being a native Texan I have spent many a holiday doing something decidedly Texan. We have visited Christmas Tree Farms and cut our own trees, worn shorts on Christmas and gone to South Padre Island to surf and fish, and scooped every fragment of snow in our yard to make a teeny two foot high snowman in Houston. To help the new Texas transplants I have compiled a number of fun things to do in Texas over the holidays. So if you need some excitement in your life, try one of these events for some good family fun.

homes: Do you want to know where the best BBQ is in Texas? Well keep reading! - 12/02/11 06:15 AM
Texas is known for having some of the best BBQ, and the BBQ in Lockhart is considered to be some of the very best in Texas. In fact in 1999 Lockhart was named “The BBQ Capital of Texas”. For being such a tiny small town they have not one, but four famous BBQ joints. One of the most popular is Kreuz Market which has been in operation for multiple generations. It opened for business  at the turn of the last century in 1900. They are easily the most famous Lockhart BBQ place. They don’t give patrons utensils, there are butcher knives … (4 comments)

homes: 2011 to produce several amazing natural light shows in the sky: Leonids & Persids Meteor Showers! - 08/15/11 06:12 AM
My love of astronomy began when I was just a little girl. My Mom would take us out sometimes before bed and we would gaze at the stars and make a wish if we saw a falling star. Occasionally we would head to Galveston beach and have a stargazing camp out! I would wonder how far away the stars were and how old they were. Did my great grandparents see the same stars I was looking at? I was like many children that age full of questions! Those are without a doubt some of my favorite childhood memories.
These night time light … (8 comments)

homes: Manchaca's interesting history, a quiet little town south of Austin Texas - 08/15/11 05:04 AM
Manchaca is a quiet little town just about 17 miles south of downtown Austin. You won't find much here except the "Railroad BBQ" joint and the post office. There are a couple of churches, and a man who carves tree stumps into Indians and a multitude of other things. The big claim to fame is the train passes through Manchaca on the way to Austin. It is also home to one of the most famous local arbortists who owns "Its about Thyme" Nursery, they have a great selection of native trees, shrubs and flowering plants. It is a small town community and … (0 comments)
