Austin has several wonderful neighborhoods in the central part of town. One of my favorites is Tarrytown. The schools in this area also have a great reputation. You may determine this for yourself by visiting www.GreatSchools.com  or www.SchoolMatters.org.  There are numerous fantastic dining options and even some great shopping in the smaller boutiques. This neighborhood is primarily comprised of homes built in the 1920's to 1950's. However due to the age of some homes there has been a recent influx of new construction when the original homes are in too poor of a condition to simply remodel. One of my favorite builders is Toll Brothers. The reason is they are very consistent about the high level of quality in their homes. Granite counter-tops are standard and they use beautifully handcrafted wrought iron on the stair railings and crown molding, and the list goes on.
