flowers: Speechless Sunday -- Philadelphia Flower Show - Lights, Camera, Bloom - 03/08/15 02:06 PM
The Philadelphia International Flower Show has always been one of the most beautiful and artistic events you could ever see. By far, the Philadelphia Horticultural Society’s show has always been my most favorite event of the year.

I've been to a dozen flowers shows in Philadelphia, but never visited  on a weekend, this was my first time and will, without a doubt, be the last.  The crowds were suffocating.  According to show organizers visits among children and students doubled, obviously because of the Disney theme.

This year, the “movie” theme was impressive even though all the displays were Disney flicks. … (15 comments)

flowers: No April Fools, Landscapes in the Northeast Need First Aid - 04/01/14 11:50 AM

No April fooling, I haven't gotten much done outside yet this year. The last few weeks would have normally been the time period we begin cleaning up the landscape here in Central Pennsylvania, but most of us are now looking at performing first aid.

Just in time for new and seasoned homeowners, the Penn State Extension in Cumberland County is conducting a series of five Wednesday-evening seminars dealing with what to plant in your landscaping.  This will be a great opportunity to learn more about ornamental plants and the use of native trees and shrubs in home landscaping.
