Punxsutawney Phil will be making his annual prediction of an early Spring, or six more weeks of Winter next Sunday, on February 2.  The gate opens at 3 a.m. with Phil's verdict announced at about 7:25 a.m.

The equine industry contributes significantly to Pennsylvania's

The show is expected to bring more than $36 million dollars in economic impact to the Central Pennsylvania region because of visitor spending at restaurants, hotels and shopping and tourism.

Impatiens in Central Pennsylvania -- The Curse of Downy Mildew
In my Central Pennsylvania neighborhood, we always celebrate our Rite of Spring by hopping in the van or truck and heading off to the local garden centers to load up on brilliant colored, shade loving impatiens.  Our impatiens would grow to form large mounds, the size of a soccer ball, requiring little care, and continuing to bloom up to the mid-Fall or until the frost.  However, the common garden impatiens is an uncommonly hot topic of conversation, as this year, disaster looms, our much loved impatiens have been cursed with Downy Mildew.
