            There is a cross-purpose covenant that has the National Association of Realtors and its local association and its members in a pickle.
 
          The NAR and the local associations naturally see as one of their primary goals, increasing membership.  What drives that is somewhat hidden.  It's that with it comes increased operating revenue for the national and local associations, more employees and higher salaries.
 
          There is an interesting paradox, however.

I often wonder how much of the negotiating jazz that another agent is giving me has even been discussed with their client.
 
Where do they learn that behavior?  Is it from those TV reality shows where the agents are dancing with zillion dollar apartment listings in Manhattan?
 
Well if it is, that stuff is invented for the drama of the show. 
 
Our job is to facilitate what our clients want to happen.  That's it.  It ain't anything else.

It is already difficult for the public -- even other real estate agents and brokers -- to determine exactly who is responsible for the actions of agents.  The Texas Real Estate Commission is making an effort to solve this by proposed new requirements and directives.  In my opinion we owe this to the public.
The Texas Association of Realtors has filed an objection.  It doesn't see any reason for the new rules.
This amazes me since I am confident I got nothing from TAR soliciting my opinion before they filed the objection.  If I didn't get contacted, I'm reasonably sure … (7 comments)
