social security: Social Security's Shocking Facts - 07/08/18 03:51 AM

Social Security Problems
Several recent studies have shown some interesting facts about our Social Security Administration and how our deposits are being handled on our behalf.
Here are a few of the major points:
There are approximately 46,000,000 Americans getting a Social Security check each month The average retired worker received about $1,400.00 last month, and that equates to just shy of $17,000.00 a year The US Government defines the poverty line for a single person at approximately $12,000.00 a year. Therefore, the average retired worker, living on their Social Security benefits,is  receiving only $5,000.00 each year above the poverty line And even more shocking, … (3 comments)

social security: If You're Over 65, and a Realtor, You Should Read This - 02/15/13 01:02 PM
There are a lot of real estate agents who have worked past 65 and have elected to take their monthly Social Security benefits.
If you are one of them, be certain that you and your tax advisor have put together a work plan that will expose as little of your Social Security payments to federal income tax as possible.
Here's the rule:
If the sum of your adjusted gross income, nontaxable interest, and half of your Social Security benefits is more than $34,000 ($44,000 for couples), up to 85 percent of your benefits may be taxable.
However, with proper planning and … (2 comments)

social security: THE SHOCKING FACTS ABOUT SOCIAL SECURITY'S FUTURE - 10/14/11 09:47 AM

In a 1960 ruling by the United States Supreme Court, the court ruled that nobody has a "contractual earned right" to Social Security benefits. Section 1104 of the 1935 Social Security Act specifically states, … (4 comments)

social security: SUNDAY IN THE PARK - DECEMBER 19, 20910 EDITION - 12/19/10 02:30 AM

SUNDAY IN THE PARK
December 19, 2010
Thanks for joining me this Sunday in the park as we prepare for the Christmas and the beginning of the year of 2011.  - Bill Cherry
Church of the Incarnation.  Our Episcopal church in uptown Dallas (3966 McKinney) is especially traditional in its ceremonies.  While there will be seven services beginning Christmas Eve and ending Christmas day, our favorite is always the one that begins at 11 p.m. Christmas Eve.  It's a solemn Eucharist with incense, the big choir and organ, along with brass instruments.   We'll be there.  You're welcome to come, too.

social security: It's Time for You to Offfer Your Clients an Important Reminder -- Your Public Service to Them - 10/08/10 12:48 AM
About this time every year, I send a reminder to clients of the present and the past and to my personal friends as well, that they need to make certain that the documents that will govern the disposition of their estates are still in proper order and current with their wishes.
I suggest that you consider adopting this public service to be one that you do as well.
One of those reviews that is often overlooked, for an example, is who a client has listed on each of his life insurance policies, retirement plan trusts, Social Security account, and the like, … (5 comments)

social security: YOUR LIFE INSURANCE BENEFITS: GOING TO THE WRONG PERSON? - 12/17/09 09:42 PM
There is a universal rule of law in the United States that many people either don't know or they fail to take it into consideration.  Here it is paraphrased:

Often times, for an example, people have named a spouse as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy, their Social Security benefits, bank accounts, or their retirement account.  Later they divorce.  Perhaps they even remarry.
But they never change the beneficiary designation from their ex-spouse … (3 comments)
