oregon trail: Visiting Fort Boise WMA - 03/07/07 02:48 AM
Tuesday was one of those Idaho days when the sun comes out and pretends it is Spring.  It was our first day with a temperature in the 60's since November.  It was one of those days for calling your best friend up and playing hookie together, which is exactly what my wife and I chose to do.  Some of the things we like to do together are birdwatching, hiking, and exploring Oregon Trail and Lewis and Clark sites. West of Boise there is a perfect place to combine all three.

In my latest newsletter I had a one line mention that you can still see Oregon Trail ruts here in Boise.  I'm always amazed by the number of folks who have lived here for many years who do not know that.  I find American History absolutely fascinating, particularly the period of time from the beginning of the 1800's into the settling of the West... you know, Lewis & Clark, mountain men, missionaries, Oregon Trail, the railroads... and it is one of my joys to live out here and be able to actually touch the places I read about.
