real estate: What's Your Name Worth? - 05/27/16 04:36 AM
I was raised to believe that names meant something...Entire families were presumed to be this way or that way based solely on name reputation. Each family member had a responsibility to uphold the family’s name and reputation (or minimally not bring shame to it). Whether it was spoken or not, the underlying responsibility flashed like a bright neon light for everyone to notice and remember. The weight of this responsibility on teenage shoulders felt burdensome and restricting. I wanted to experience the throw caution to the wind recklessness that is often portrayed in films. The unapologetic doing of ones own thing without regard … (1 comments)

real estate: I’m (NOT) #1, but I am really, really good! - 02/04/16 09:40 AM
I recently stumbled accross an article titled, Obsessed With Being Famous” and couldn’t help seeing a professional parallel. The article speaks to the new celebrity that is preceived through social media platforms and how people are willing to do just about anything to be famous. Conversely, the preference of money over fame has long been a humorous topic in my friend circle. “If I were to win (the record breaking Powerball jackpot) I wouldn’t tell anyone, “I’d just become less and less available due to my travel schedule”.
In my profession, it is a popular perception that the more famous you … (4 comments)

real estate: The Dee-List: $18 Lipstick, A Pillow and a Fake Plant! - 02/27/14 10:07 AM

Even early in my real estate career I knew that presentation was important.  I understood that if someone connected with the home on an emotional level - I had a buyer!  Resources were limited  and I had not yet received any formal home staging training.
So here I am at my first listing...it was a small (cozy) bungalow in a quiet little town (location, location, location) with creaky wood floors (character) and dated furniture (old world charm).  I knew that all of the buzz surrounding this - close to the city, suburb with … (0 comments)

real estate: The Dee-List: Homeowner Association's - Buyers Be'A'ware! - 02/20/14 11:22 AM
enV I O L A T I O N
It took longer than you expected to sell your home and find the perfect location to downsize, but here you are. Your new home meets all of your goals relating to location, amenities and conveniences. It’s so exciting and you waste no time adding a few warming touches.

First, you paint the front door wedge wood blue, which seems to be appropriate in this gardenlike setting. Next you add a new wreath to the door and finally your favorite lamp bearing statues to the front garden. It is impressive how much … (4 comments)

real estate: "Welcome Back" - The Relocated Agent's Theme Song! - 02/17/14 10:23 AM
"Welcome back, To that same old place that you laughed about. Well the names have all changed since you hung around,
But those dreams have remained and they're turned around..."
You may not remember that famous theme song to a nostalgic t.v. show, but as I relocated back to my home state after years of building a great real estate business elsewhere ... this song popped in my head and followed me like my own personal theme song.
All of the excitement, vulnerbilities and insecurities of starting over only to realize that it's not a sad song, it's a song of empowerment. One … (3 comments)

real estate: The Completed List - 01/07/08 10:00 AM

So, we've already gotten a great start on getting your listing up to par in the marketing presentation.  Now let's complete the job:
6.  De-Robe the Bath.  This is where we do the bathroom blitz.  No toiletries on the counter.  No personals scattered about.  Add a big new fluffy towel.
7.  De-Darken.  Lights, camera & action.  Home should be well lit.  Add a couple extra lamps if needed.  Never too much light in a room that is for sale.
8.  De-Spose.  Closet keeping.  Tidy the closet space, especially the linen closets.  Remove MOST items.
9.  De-Bore.  Make a GRAND … (0 comments)

real estate: Who Moved My Cottage Cheese? - 11/04/07 02:29 AM

You have probably read the book, "Who Moved My Cheese?" by Spencer Johnson, M.D., If you haven't - you'll definitely want to.  It's a great and easy read about dealing with change in your work and in your life.  No one will deny that the real estate industry has experienced a great deal of change.  I have always believed that change was good.  It doesn't always feel good at the moment, It isn't always financially profitable but it has served the greater good most often in my experience.  The key is our ability to adjust to and accept change.  Movement with … (4 comments)

real estate: Berwyn Heights - Hidden Gem of Prince George's County - 10/02/07 03:42 PM
Who says that Mayberry no longer exsists?  Berwyn Heights, MD.  By name it reminds you of just the kind of town it is.  A small town feel in the heart of the metropolitan Washington, DC area.  This close knit community beckons all who visit to remain.  From the town sponsored events, to the local historical committees, to the highly anticipated town fair every first Saturday in May, here is where memories happen.   A Sunday walk around the local lake Artemesia, is surely to delight...and meet a few new friends.  This is a Mayberry meets Mid-town environment, and a great place to … (3 comments)
