In the North Georgia Blue Ridge area, we are known for beautiful log cabins. Many of our cabins have metal roofs and this type of roofing is preferred by most home buyers. When I had my cabin built, I opted for a metal roof and I think it was one of the best decisions I made during the contstruction process. You pay a little more, but in the long run, you get a durable roof lasting years beyond the traditional asphalt shingle type. There are many new styles and looks now too. From metal shingle/slate, tile, vertical panes to natural metals. More (3 comments)

The North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountain real estate market is primarily a second home, discretionary market. This fact alone could cause mountain properties to take longer to sell than properties in primary markets because a buyer who already owns a home must choose to spend money to buy a second home in an uncertain economy.
The overall real estate market (consisting of Fannin, Gilmer, Towns and Union Counties) is being called stable by some local appraisors. Have We Hit Bottom ? Well, we won't really know until prices start going up.

log cabins: More than Buying a Home, It's Making a Lifestyle Choice in the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains

We are going into our busiest season of the year, Fall in the North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains. As a Realtor, I can already tell that we are seeing more home buyers now. Some home buyers held off buying that dream mountain escape thinking prices will go lower and more than likely missed out on the log cabin of their dreams. Who knows whether prices will go lower? Atlanta reported just last week that prices have started increasing and even some of the beleaguered Florida markets are reporting their home prices are increasing too. Buyers, if you want a second home, vacation retreat or cabin rental investment (10 comments)
