Update: November 7, 2007 The voters of Fannin County voted 3871 to 3330 against passing the resolution to authorize the sale of distilled spirits. Fannin County nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia is almost split in half regarding the upcoming beer and wine referendum to be voted on in November. Business leaders and real estate developers would like to see the referendum pass so that the playing field can be opened up to attract nicer restaurants, boost tourism, create jobs, and keep revenue in the county. There was an article in the local paper, The News Observer written by Brian Finnicum regarding this issue. On November 6, 2007, (North Georgia Blue Ridge Mountains) Fannin County voters will decide whether or not to allow distilled spirits to be served in the county's restaurants. This issue is important to all residents in Fannin County.
Some have concerns that we cannot grow healthy businesses and the loss of tax revenue will mean higher taxes in the future. Other residents are concerned that it will change our quaint mountain town and they are not sure it is for the better.
