Are you smarter than a fifth grader? ... I want to give full credit that the inspiration for his came from my 11 year old son. We were riding in the car the other day and Ryan asked me Q: "What is the speed of light?" I could tell that he knew the answer and was going somewhere with the question.... Last fall, during the Presidential campaigns, I got pretty fed up with BOTH candidates using the tax system as a means to buy or influence how I vote. I subscribe to RealTown but I rarely if ever post anything there. Today one of the readers asked about something he had heard from former Minnesota Governor, Jesse, Ventura, about eliminating the IRS and establishing a national sales tax. Very clearly, a few of the people who responded had no idea of how the "Fair Tax would work. taxes: Down payments, taxes, and the Housing reform bill

A lot has been said here on Active Rain and many other places about the elimination of seller funded Down Payment assistance programs and many other "reforms" coming out of the housing reform bill. OK, maybe I'm a little slow and just now figuring this out, but I went to public school so maybe I have an excuse :-). With the legislation as it is effective Oct 1 the seller a private individual cannot contribute to the buyers down payment. However there a multitude of local and state grant programs that will give the buyers a down payment. The big one around here … (6 comments)
