decluttering: Time to pack up your eccentricities, your passions, and your personality! - 02/06/11 04:42 PM
Is it time to dig into your stores of the bland, boring, generic, or dull decorative items?
Yes, if you are merchandising your property for sale, it is time to make the old switcheroo!!
When buyers view your property, they are interested in the actual “bones” of your home. They are not going to be seeking financing based on all of your belongings coming with the property. They are not there to buy your “stuff”.
Buyers are also limited on time and excess imagination. I mention buyers being limited on their visualization skills because the buying process can be hectic and … (9 comments)

decluttering: Is your Christmas tree still up at home? - 01/22/11 05:51 PM
Are you finding that you often forget which holiday season we are actually in the midst of?
Does it take a grocery trip to Safeway and seeing the Valentines candy already out for sale to realize that it may be time to end Christmas at home?
How many of you had to physically remove Halloween decorations in order to make room for your Christmas decorations?

How many of you answered “yes” to one or more of the above questions, and also feel ashamed?
Well, I am here to say that there is NO NEED for you to feel ashamed.
There … (12 comments)

decluttering: Home Stagers Dig Deeper into the Concept of De-cluttering before Listing for Sale - 01/12/11 07:47 AM

It is no mystery that a de-cluttered property shows much better than a cluttered one.
Where the mystery lies is inside of each unique individual’s personal definition of clutter.
And, here is where the line gets severely blurred.
Most of us define clutter as scattered piles of miscellaneous “things”.  And, the majority of us see clutter as mostly small items.
When we hear the word “clutter” we think of the following: Excess ornaments, too much framed artwork on walls and surfaces, piles of laundry, stacks of paperwork, toys, office/stationary items, boxes, bags, shoes, tools, over-stuffed cupboards/drawers/closets, etc.
And, these are … (2 comments)

decluttering: How long has it been since you have had company over for the Holidays? - 11/20/10 05:40 PM
The Holiday season is approaching quickly, and, for many of us, this time of year is quite bitter-sweet.
This is supposed to be a joyous time of year where we get to spend quality time with loved ones.
But, more people than we realize are plagued with the inability to invite visitors into their homes due to large amounts of clutter. Society has dictated that we are less-than-stellar humans if we are not able to keep on top of our "stuff" in our environments.
So, what do we do when we are not comfortable having others in to our homes for … (9 comments)

decluttering: Help for Seniors Making the Move to Assisted Living Communities - 06/27/10 04:27 PM
For most of us, there comes a time in life where it is time to admit that our quality of life would improve monumentally if we made the move to a community where we no longer have to worry about the tedious and/or laborious tasks in our daily lives.
The tasks that I refer to include yard-work, house cleaning, cooking, etc.
We have nurtured our children, accomplished great feats, and have worked very hard in life to get to this point in life. It is important to try to view this move to assisted living as a positive one. You deserve … (3 comments)

decluttering: The Sale of Shoe-Racks should be Out-lawed... - 05/29/10 01:34 PM
As a Home Stager, I am shocked at how many of my clients have one or both of their entry-ways adorned with lovely, open-air shoe-racks.
I will never stop harping on the fact that the most important "impact area" in a property is that point where they step through the entry-way.
We need to be so mindful of how that entire entry-way scene hits the buyer's five senses. Yes, this includes their sense of smell.
I will tell you what these free-standing, out-in-the-open shoe-racks immediately tells a buyer:
1. Oh great, this property is seriously lacking storage. Where am I going … (4 comments)

decluttering: Just because "The Holidays" have started, doesn't necessarily mean... - 12/12/09 08:11 AM
Traditionally, the December/January time of year marks the dreaded slow-down in the Real Estate market. We do, however, have to realize that if potential buyers are calling to schedule viewings, they are going to be the most serious of buyers.
During the Holidays, humans are typically more time-bankrupt and financially burdened then at any other time of year. So, if they are making the time to look at a property for sale, chances are they are in a situation where they HAVE to find one to purchase...PRONTO.
Also, if they are making the effort, setting the time aside, and committing to come out … (2 comments)

A Staged Property Sells Faster and For Top Dollar. This has been statistically proven time, and time again.
I completely admire and respect the huge number of hats that you, as a Realtor, end up wearing throughout the process of selling a property.
