I recently received a mystery email - from a food delivery service in Greece - delivered in Greek. Even
though I don't read Greek, there was enough English to be able to figure out that they would deliver
sandwiches and food items to my villa or my yacht - with just a phone call.          Wonderful!
Sitting here in Michigan with the temperature still in the 30's, I was really wondering how I would get
those menus  taken care of for the bash on the yacht this weekend.

Here is the email:

cached: Mexico Vacation ~ Lovely Little Busceria - 03/18/08 12:45 PM
We recently went on vacation in Mexico. Gorgeous 80 degree days, lovely soft ocean breezes, ahhh, it was paradise. Oh, also no phones ringing and no demands on our time made it seem leisurely and serene. We have vacationed in Puerta Vallarta before, but a chance aquaintance at an restaurant with a young couple from Vancouver led us to a small village north of Puerta Vallarta named Busceria. This sleepy little village is just starting to be discovered by the touristas, so it still has a wonderful local feeling about it. It hasn't been turned into USA south - YET.

We saw our first robin yesterday - sure sign spring is here!! If you live in Grand Rapids MI, you
know that the robins return signals spring. We have had a cold and snowy winter this year and are
especially glad to see our first one this year.

A friend gave me two free coupons for a local spa treatment. I hadn't heard of the salon, the Douglas J
Institute, located in downtown Grand Rapids at 138 Commerce St SW.  She said it was wonderful and I should
enjoy it. I admit I am a grown up Tomboy and don't really like salons and all the  paraphernalia that goes with
it.  I tolerate my semi-yearly haircuts and that is about the extent of my foray into the world of beauty.

Merle's Door by by Ted Kerasote is one of the best dog memoir books I have

reading about dogs, don't miss this great book!  It is truly a loving
tribute to a big-hearted canine from his beloved best friend.

Winter is an amazing season for us here on the pennisula called Michigan. We have fresh water lakes the
size of small seas all around us that offer recreation, fishing, scenic views, and awesome acts of nature, like the
one pictured below. This was taken at the Petoskey Breakwater on February 10, 2008 during a storm.

I am a dog lover and a reader. I came across this story this week and wanted to share it with all of you.
If you have ever had to put a dog or other animal down, this may ring true for you.  It certainly did for me.
I hope I have a few passports waiting for me.....

It is hard to kill a dog. We put it off and we delay and when we finally do it we ask ourselves afterwards if there wasn't something more we might have done. And of course there was.  Whenever you you have to kill … (21 comments)

cached: What Color Are You ??? - 01/06/08 12:48 AM
The news this morning was full of political rehashing and banter.
While eating my breakfast, I heard this question:
"What will Barack Obama's reaction be as  the first black candidate to win a
presidential   primary? "
I cringed.  I think this question is inane.    How do you think he feels?
I'd say pretty darn good and rightfully so...
                                                                         HE WON.
Does the emphasis on his skin color make any difference to the answer. I don't think so, so why ask it?
(The people who wouldn't vote for him because of his skin color are another topic entirely)
Would the pundits ask Mitt Romney what it … (26 comments)

cached: Calvin College Presents the 20th Annual January Series of FREE Lectures - 01/01/08 06:46 AM
Calvin College, a local university, has presented free lectures to the Grand Rapids community for the last 19 years, in their January Series.
In their 20th year this January, they bring in world class speakers and entertainers covering many aspects of our world today, including ecology, politics, ethics, and humanitarian aid for this event.
We have attended a few of the lectures for the last few years, and found them to be highly informational and engaging.  Because they are held during the day, it is difficult for most people to attend.  The last few years, Calvin College has been recording the presenters, if … (8 comments)

I have been Meme'ed by Eleanor Thorne.
Now, according to the RULES, I must divulge 5 things you don't know about me.  Since I am fairly new to Active
Rain, this shouldn't be too difficult.
No. 1  I grew up on a small farm just outside the village limits of a very small town, pop. 700, here in western
Michigan.  We had a Holstein cow which I learned to milk. We had in fits and phases, banty chickens, a sheep, a
goat, calves to keep the cow fresh, and always dogs. I had  several horses but

                                                                                        Getting Ready to Move ??
This is a Primer on what to do  as soon as you  decide to sell your home, BEFORE you call the Realtor to consult about listing it.
No. 1       TRY TO SEE YOUR HOME AS A VISITOR DOES.
I know this is a difficult assignment but you really have to do this.  Visitors to your home are not sentimentally attached to the evidence of day to day living and family life, as you are.  Their eyes won't mist over when they see the evidence of your late dog's scratches on the door nor will they appreciate the Christmas … (7 comments)

Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army by Jeremy Scahill

This is such a bonechilling book, I must caution you to consider
before starting it, especially in this holiday season, you will
probably be running around bah-humbugging everyone and
everything after you read it.
The rise of this mercenary army just in time to be a major
player in the Iraq War is a story every US citizen should read and
be aware of.
The favoritism and monetary greed that feed this war is on a scale never seen before in our government.
The implications for future " dirty little wars" … (15 comments)
