grand rapids mi real estate: Weird or What?? Edible Landscaping is Smart!!
- 04/15/08 02:52 AM
No, these are not aliens from another world or a close up of some weird plant life - if any of you are gardeners or farmers you will probably recognize that the shoots coming out of the ground with this fantastic red color are rhubarb. Michigan is one of the largest producers of rhubarb and it is even forced in greenhouses here for winter harvesting. Some say that Michigan and Canadian rhubarb tastes the best.
The rhubarb plant or "pie plant" as it is also known, can be harvested all summer lightly or take a heavy early summer and late summer harvest. The plant is originally from Asia, a relative (35 comments)
grand rapids mi real estate: Is my LONG TAIL too Loooooong ??
- 03/26/08 12:59 PM
I recently received a mystery email - from a food delivery service in Greece - delivered in Greek. Even though I don't read Greek, there was enough English to be able to figure out that they would deliver sandwiches and food items to my villa or my yacht - with just a phone call. Wonderful! Sitting here in Michigan with the temperature still in the 30's, I was really wondering how I would get those menus taken care of for the bash on the yacht this weekend.
Here is the email:
Why would a Greek Deli Delivery Service be emailing me a menu in (29 comments)
International Goof Off Day is an appropriately goofy holiday on which observers are reminded to sit back, relax, and spend time goofing off. So go ahead, spend the day doing whatever it is you feel like doing, no matter how goofy! However, we advise that you take some precautions, and don't end up in jail!!
I'm spending my time making goofy posts like this!!

grand rapids mi real estate: Mexico Vacation ~ Lovely Little Busceria
- 03/18/08 12:45 PM
We recently went on vacation in Mexico. Gorgeous 80 degree days, lovely soft ocean breezes, ahhh, it was paradise. Oh, also no phones ringing and no demands on our time made it seem leisurely and serene. We have vacationed in Puerta Vallarta before, but a chance aquaintance at an restaurant with a young couple from Vancouver led us to a small village north of Puerta Vallarta named Busceria. This sleepy little village is just starting to be discovered by the touristas, so it still has a wonderful local feeling about it. It hasn't been turned into USA south - YET. This will be (27 comments)

grand rapids mi real estate: A Spa Day for Free - Douglas J Institute in Grand Rapids Michigan
- 03/15/08 12:34 PM
A friend gave me two free coupons for a local spa treatment. I hadn't heard of the salon, the Douglas J Institute, located in downtown Grand Rapids at 138 Commerce St SW. She said it was wonderful and I should enjoy it. I admit I am a grown up Tomboy and don't really like salons and all the paraphernalia that goes with it. I tolerate my semi-yearly haircuts and that is about the extent of my foray into the world of beauty. My friend, Karen Webster, (you can read about Karen's blog reaction here) and I decide to do lunch and then get the Self-Renewal Facial (7 comments)
grand rapids mi real estate: Confessions of an Economic Hit Man ~ Background for our present global standing
- 03/15/08 02:17 AM
Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins has created a lot of controversy. Some say it is not true and a fantasy creation(US State Dept). I'm not sure this book tells all the facts but it is alarmingly clear that some of it is TRUE. That alone is a sobering thought. A New York Times Bestseller, it is a must read if you want to understand the globalpolitical standing of the United States in today's world.
John tells us his history of working for an international consulting company in the late twentieth century. In his words, an "economic hitman": Economic (4 comments)

I recently posted about The January Series at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI. This is the only lecture we were able to attend and what a great lecture and topic. Imagine yourself floating 100 feet above the Amazon rainforest floor, plucking leaves & flowers, photographing bugs, seeing tropical birds literally where they live. All in a day's work for Canopy Meg....... As with most researchers, Margaret D. Lowman is not well known publicly. Her nickname is Canopy Meg.
