This is my favorite picture of me and my son, Grayson, who turned 15 recently. He was nine in this picture, and growing up fast. He is now 6'3" and is following his destiny by teaching at computer camp this summer near Boston. A great new world awaits him and his friends. It's a world unlike any we've ever known. It's a world that's unimaginable to anyone alive today. We will ride toward that tomorrow together. I love you, Gray. (8 comments)

Write 15 blog posts Unless hit by a lightning bolt, or perhaps a coup de foudre, I'll meet this mark on Monday, July 8, at the latest. I write a post a day, sometimes more. Write 100 comments with 20 of them being the first comment I write more than 300 comments a month. Here it is July 6 and I've left over 60 comments, with ten or twelve first comments. For more than 20 years, my father was an editorial writer for the New York Times. He covered the U.S. Supreme Court and the New York courts, primarily. This Independence Day, he sent around this copy of his editorial from 26 years ago, when the Times, at my father's behest, reprinted the text of the Constitution, along with its customary printing of the Declaration of Independence. Here, slightly edited, is his introductory email to today's celebrants, followed by the editorial itself. The full text of the U.S. Constitution may (19 comments)
I grew up looking out the third-floor window in the front. The one with the Juliet balcony. It wasn't hard to scramble out onto the roof, sometimes with a guitar. The first picture below shows the view from my window. I seem to remember that I could see more of the National Cathedral. Perhaps its the photo, or perhaps the houses grew up, too.
The interior looks remarkably similar to the way my parents decorated it 40 years ago, even though there have been several owners (3 comments)
I've just read a bunch of great posts about how to hold an open house. No point repeating the info, so here's a different angle. When I do an open house for a fellow Realtor, my first obligation is to try my best to help her sell that house! I've read and heard the cynical view that the "only" reason to do an open house is to get the showing agent or facilitator more prospects. Obviously, it is one reason, but it shouldn't be the only reason. The short-sightedness of doing an (52 comments)
about me: Tangible proof
- 06/13/13 01:27 PM
Today I got a bit of tangible proof -- solid, external feedback -- that my efforts to show the value I bring to other peoples' lives are paying off. One of my core beliefs is that to be successful at what I do, I need to know more about what I am doing for my clients than my competition does, and I need to show my clients that I am more valuable to them today than I was yesterday. One man whom I hold in very high esteem because of the personal obstacles that he overcame on his way to having (11 comments)
I love this bedroom with an aquarium for a headboard. I once designed a 40-foot entrance hall that had an aquarium on all four sides. Mirrored underfloor. Open walls to the rooms on the sides. Never built it. Saw one like it somewhere in a picture, but I don't know where it is. Do any of you know of anything similar?

about me: My friend, Bailey
- 05/25/13 11:50 PM
Bailey was Kathy's 14-year old, 90-pound Akita-Terrier dog and our friend. If she wasn't up at 7:30, and often earlier, to take him out for his run, and as he got older, his walk, he would bark until she was. He was a very loyal and happy dog. He disliked thunder and fireworks. He loved people, children and other dogs. He chased squirrels, but he never caught them. We love you, and we'll miss you, Bailey.

- 05/12/13 01:24 PM
I just completed and submitted the form for the contest "May's Cloudburst of You". My blogging is focused on market reports and hyperlocal posts, in addition to luxury homes, company listings, and local information about people, places, events and fun. You can find the categories that I blog about in the list of links on the right side of this page. I also hope to be useful and to give back to the communities in my service area and to the Active Rain blogging community. I am grateful for your help, friendship, support and feedback.

about me: One thing . . . at a time
- 04/17/13 04:42 AM
The Active Rain challenge on the book, The One Thing, asked me to read a chapter and write a report about what I was thinking as I read it. Here's the link back to the original post so you can enter the challenge if you'd like. I read all three chapters presented and am writing about the multi-tasking chapter. Essentially, it says multi-tasking isn't helpful or productive, and that the term is commonly misunderstood. Multi-tasking isn't really doing two things at once. It's about allocating computer resources to the most important task, and using those resources on other tasks that are (7 comments)
about me: My son and ex-wife were directly UNDER the explosions, on the subway
- 04/15/13 10:18 PM
One of the fun parts of Patriots Day in Boston is the early Red Sox game. The whole point of an 11:00 a.m. start is that the Red Sox win early and the fans can stream out into Boston and take in the Marathon. It's hectic because it's a whole crowd of happy people. My son and my ex-wife are safe and okay. But they had a harrowing day. Also, an agent from our office was running in the Marathon and she was on the last mile or so at 2:50. She was stopped and was not able to finish. I'll (5 comments)
about me: Congratulations To Me Contest Entry
- 04/07/13 11:43 PM
Congratulations To Me Contest Entry What?!? Congratulations to me? You bet. The challenges I set for this contest are twofold. The dietary goal is to maintain the juicing diet I describe in the video, and the physical goal is to run stairs, run distance or lift weights every day through the end of April. This is obviously the blog post outlining my goals and including the congratulatory video. The video appears below. To complete the contest requirements, I'll comment now at contest central with a link to this post.
I love this stuff. What a great community we have here! Thanks. (9 comments)
about me: Coldwell Banker Previews International Luxury Market Report
- 04/05/13 11:17 AM
I'm a big fan of our Coldwell Banker Previews International Luxury Market Report. It's gorgeous. It's informative. It's fun. Before I moved back to the South Shore, I lived for most of a decade in Telluride, Colorado. Telluride features the best ski mountain in the United States, and is tucked away in the southwest corner of Colorado, making it delightfully difficult to get to, and sometimes, in a good snow storm, delightfully impossible to leave. It's better than Aspen, but Aspen has higher-priced real estate. The Coldwell Banker Previews International Luxury Market Report spends a bit of ink on Aspen this time (3 comments)

about me: I wish I knew
- 04/02/13 07:45 AM
I wish I knew that I was coming back to real estate after 10 years doing other things. I'm writing this post for the April Active Rain Challenge called "What do you wish you knew . . . "
My path through life has been multiple, varied and colorful. I've done a lot of things, been a lot of places and met a lot of people. I suppose I've slowed down the rate of change in the past decade, but when I was in my 30's, people would often say, "Wow, you've done a lot for your age!" I've (38 comments)
about me: Seller's market strategy? Sure . . . if and when
- 03/16/13 12:50 AM
Active Rain, my blogging platform, is running a contest based on the idea that market conditions are shifting toward a "hot" seller's market, and AR is asking what changes I will make in the way I do business to address this shift. This AR contest has a very interesting premise that we are hearing about in the news and from certain areas of the country. I keep seeing the news in the media, and reading blogs written by my peers and colleagues all over this fine country, and wondering, "When are we going to get some of that action?" about me: Coldwell Banker homes for sale in Duxbury
- 03/02/13 10:33 PM
Coldwell Banker is the biggest real estate brokerage in Duxbury by far. We have more homes for sale, sell more homes, have higher average sale prices, and typically sell homes in a shorter time than our competition. We may not have the highest numbers in every single sales metric every month, but we typically do about 30-35% of the real estate business in Duxbury every month. We must be doing things right. I think I know what they are. Great service from great people who work hard to serve you and your interests every day. I work with a very friendly, (0 comments)
about me: Exclusive Listing Agreements - The Way It Used to Be!
- 02/13/13 08:15 AM
I have a friend who lives in North Carolina. Her great-grandfather was a real estate agent back in the days when a real estate "listing" was a piece of paper on a list hung on the wall or in the window of a salesman's store. At some point, he gave her an interest rate book of the sort we used to use to look up mortgage and interest payments before calculators and computers "revolutionized" those long lists of extrapolated data. The book is worn, thumbed through, and yellowed with age and use. Along with the book was a pad, or booklet, (3 comments)
