about me: Day of the Walking Dead
- 02/09/13 10:31 PM
When we think and talk about the comforts and security of home, we take an awful lot for granted. We enjoy enormous luxuries unavailable to anyone, anywhere on this planet, at any time up until the last few generations. Storm Nemo is over, and the power is back on here at my house. 250,000 people across Massachusetts are still without power, most of them within 50 miles of me. Recovery efforts are in full gear and will bring most of us back on-line quickly. There are people living on Staten Island whose power still hasn't been restored two months after their disaster. about me: Nemo's here
- 02/07/13 10:55 PM
Let 'er blow, Cap'n! The snow's started. The snow blower is fixed, gassed and oiled, with the hood cover on. The phones, flashlights and other devices are charged. There's food in the fridge. The office is closed. My clients are prepared, too. So we're ready for a great blizzard! This is what New England winters are all about. Just a normal weekend for the mountains of southwest Colorado, but here, it's a stay-cation! As long as the electricity stays on, the hot tub will be simmering away, waiting for us to plunge in and let the snow fall on our heads. (3 comments)
about me: Me ... and the Seldom Scene, on a video-less Super Bowl Sunday
- 02/03/13 01:13 AM
The Seldom Scene is a bluegrass band that strongly influenced my childhood, both generally and musically. Their lead singer, John Duffy, had an oft-repeated line he used when introducing one song: "And now, for a medley of our greatest hit." More about that below. Since I had exactly one comment on my previous post, my variation on that theme is: I'm sorry to disappoint all my fan, but I won't be able to make or post the video blog that I promised for today. I'm on up desk from now until noon, and then I have work to do with clients. (0 comments)
about me: Rain, Wind, Crazy Rain -- Coincidence?
- 01/31/13 06:42 AM
I joined Active Rain last week. The weather's been unseasonably warm the last two days: in the sixties when the normal highs are in the forties. The warmth came with some seriously stormy conditions.
This morning I woke up early to the sound of wind and rain whipping against the house and the sliding glass doors to the balcony. Where I live, there's always some urban "night glow", but when I pulled the curtains to see what the storm looked like, I couldn't see a thing. Dark as a dungeon. But wet. Really wet. And windy. about me: The South Shore Report's grand opening
- 01/23/13 02:33 AM
Hi! Welcome to The South Shore Report. I'm writing this blog about the land, homes and people of the South Shore, Massachusetts, communities along Route 3, which runs from Cape Cod up the east coast of Massachusetts to the southern end of Boston. When you drive up Route 3, with the Atlantic Ocean on your right, you will pass through a number of towns along the way.
These are beautiful, old towns that were settled within 30 years after the Pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in 1620. They grew as Boston, 40 miles north of Plymouth, became an important commercial (2 comments)
