For the purposes of the contest, I'm not the star of this video, either as best actor or actress. My supporting role is off-screen. (Time off from real estate is one of the main reasons to do real estate in the first place.)
It is music like this that revolves around my soul. It is the inspiration, if not the source, of everything else in my life, personal, professional and social. If you took away the music, my life would be far, far less satisfying.

ar: Community Guidelines - 01/23/14 04:29 AM
For this month's contest, I re-read the Community Guidelines.
I believe in these guidelines. I like them. I honor them, and I've e-met a lot of you who also honor them.
I don't have a whole lot to say about them, but I would like to share a few impressions.
First, I have yet to see a Fair Housing violation on AR. Now, there must be a few of those somewhere, sometime, but I read a fair number of posts, even if I don't comment on every single one I read, and I'm almost surprised, in retrospect, that no FH issues … (3 comments)

I just showed a house that is being well-lived in. That is, there is stuff everywhere because the occupants are enjoying life. We looked past it, knowing why, and loving it. There's always something that grabs me in each place I go. This permanent piece of artwork was hung on the chimney. Such good words to hold.

ar: Miramar sledding hill, Duxbury Massachusetts - 01/03/14 04:00 AM
We've had a bit of a snowstorm here, in case you haven't heard. Some people are saying that, as a storm, it's a bit disappointing even: not really a snow "event"!  The sun has poked through here. taking the edge off of the cold. Driveways are getting plowed out, and the snow has stopped.
So the kids need to get out of the house! It's a school snow day. Mid-year exam schedules will be scrapped, but that's a worry for tomorrow. Today, it's time to go sledding!

ar: 40,000 to #1 in Plymouth County, Massachusetts - 01/02/14 03:20 AM
I've been writing this blog since the end of February 2013. It's an important part of my business plan moving forward. I've discovered that there aren't many agents in my area, the South Shore of Massachusetts, who use the internet very effectively in building their businesses. I believe that, and time will tell whether, I have a window of opportunity here to create an online brand around my name and value proposition.
I know why the internet isn't widely, intensively, or even properly used here. It's not because agents can't figure out and keep up with the latest fandangled attribute of … (12 comments)

Orchid
I used to grow orchids like this. I didn't grow this orchid or take this picture, but I wanted to share my friends' skills in those two areas with you all.
Orchids grow landing pads on which bees and other pollinators are encouraged to alight. As they pull back, after injesting the sweet, sticky pollen at the end of the runway (here, the pollen is yellow and red), the pointed hook hanging from above the opening breaks off and sticks in the pollinator's back. This is what is carried to another flower to pollinate it, and perpetuate the species.

ar: THE NEW How to format pictures in your blog - 12/21/13 05:23 AM
This is a revision of a previous post describing how to format your picture on Active Rain.
Active Rain updated the blogging platform in several steps over the last few months. The photo editor was changed. Regardless of whether those change were for the better or not, here is how it works now.
1. When you want to insert a photo, go to the end of a line and hit Enter/Return so the cursor is blinking on a new line.

2. Click on the Insert/edit image icon in the menu bar. It's the one with a mountain and a sun/moon … (56 comments)

December Fitness Challenge
All you need for great physical conditioning, including the abs you want and endless energy, is a clean diet and pullups, pushups, squats and running.
This workout will get you there without special equipment. Improvise something for bicep curl dumbbells and you don't need a gym.
This is a circuit training.  Do one exercise right after the previous one, rest one minute after the last one, and do three sets in all.
Squat - 12 reps. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and sit back as if you were sitting on a chair. Jump squat - 12 reps. … (17 comments)

ar: Real estate isn't a free lunch - The dish - 11/01/13 09:41 AM
Since the New Deal, several generations of Americans have come to expect that home price would rise over time. We have also been able to point to long periods of time when the gains have exceeded the rate of inflation.
Some measures even compare rates of return on residential real estate with stock market or bond returns, although the purported gains don't take into account the annual costs of maintainance, paying taxes and other costs associated with home ownership.
The gains have not been automatic, of course. The expectation that we will be able to sell our houses at a … (12 comments)

ar: Live and in-person III - 10/27/13 10:02 AM
For the Whom "would I like to meet . . . in person" contest, I've got three. Consider it picking names out of a hat, though. Like many other entrants, I have far more than three favorites.
Amy Jones

I first picked up on Amy Jones's blog because I realized that she was a super-successful Realtor and knew a thing or two about marketing herself. I studied her website, her links and her blog, and learned about quite a few things that I would try out for myself over the next few months. (I've been on AR since the last few … (5 comments)

Kathleen Daniels

Kathleen was the first person I talked to on the phone after I joined Active Rain. It took a long time, frankly, for me to pick up the phone. I had a reason/excuse to call. I forget what it was, but I made up a good one. Then I didn't use it for the longest time. Finally, Active Rain called me … (5 comments)

When things are good, things are really good
I sing-song that title as if it were a Dr. Seuss rhyme!
I can't point to just one thing. The last couple of weeks have been "better and better". Great clients, great opportunities, great friends, and great developments all around.
It's about time. I've been up, I've been down. Up is better!
Would you let me know if things are really good for you?

Red Sox win on SECOND  grand slam - But WHY? Manager Do-Something-Itis
By now you know that the Boston Red Sox won the sixth game of the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers and are going to the World Series.
They won with a second astonishing and absolutely exhilarating grand slam, this time by Shane Victorino. I love it. You know that.
But here's my question. WHY? What exactly do managers do, and why do they do it? Why, that is, do they sabotage their teams at crucial moments by sending in relievers when the starter is doing just … (8 comments)
