Hingham is primarily a residential town, but it offers some great summer activities. Some of them are year-round, too. The Weir River Farm is a 75-acre working, family-friendly farm, one of the last farms in Hingham, with its own family of horses, pigs, cows, chickens and sheep. You can follow one path to the barnyard and visit with the horses, pigs, and chickens. Another path takes you across a grassy avenue before entering The Grove, woods with an open understory reminiscent of a British woodland. A Garden Path, bordered by flowering shrubs and flowers, within the Grove, creates (5 comments)

Cohasset is a residential town, with some great things to do. Cohasset has a walkable downtown, with shops and restaurants in the Village. Main Street and Elm Street are lined with historic homes. At the east end lies the beautiful protected harbor with its lobster boats and historic Minot's Lighthouse. Along the coast, magnificent homes and ocean vistas from Atlantic Avenue and Jerusalem Road comprise the “Gold Coast”, one of the loveliest waterfront home areas in the country. Like much of the east coast of Massachusetts, the area is packed with early American history, and Cohasset has (4 comments)

The Tree of Knowledge monument, at a road intersection in Duxbury, commemorates the post riders meeting place in our town. Below what's legible, it says, "Duxbury Tricentenary 1937". That is, the monument was erected on the occasion of Duxbury's 300th birthday, now more than 75 years ago.

- 05/14/13 03:38 AM
The Boston Bruins scored two goals in the last two minutes of regular play to tie the seventh game of the playoff with the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-4. Then they scored to win in overtime. I gotta tell you, I had written them off and wasn't watching the TV anymore, though it was still on in the background . . . until the goal that made it 4-3. NY Rangers? Bring it.

Duxbury Beach, on an April afternoon. The Gurnet Bridge is still under re-construction, so the only approach is from the Marshfield side, on Route 139. Well, unless you want to risk incurring the (friendly) wrath of the Harbormaster if he catches you crossing the construction zone. I took a few minutes, after viewing a lovely beach home on the Gurnet this afternoon, to walk in the sunshine.
April has been cold and gray here, and the warmth of the sunshine took the edge off the chill that lingered in the steady onshore breeze. In town, the smell was (11 comments)

This was really, really cool. Neil Diamond "just showed up", as the sportscasters said, at Boston's Fenway Park on Saturday to lead the crowd in a sing-along of his classic hit, "Sweet Caroline." We sing the song during the eighth-inning of every Fenway game, and we've been doing it since 2002. On Tuesday night, every Major League Baseball park in the country played the song in tribute to Boston. When the Yankees played it, that really warmed the hearts of Red Sox fans. This was the first game at Fenway Park since the bombings, a day after the city had been locked (11 comments)
