Middlebrooks won't be obstructing the Cardinals' return flight to St. Louis tomorrow morning! This photo is on the internet because a sportscaster was asked if Middlebrooks was also responsible for the 7-hour runway delay of the Cardinals plane last night. It's said the Cardinals are in good spirits today. That attitude will be somewhat different by about 9 p.m tonight, I reckon!

massachusetts: My flight in the cockpit of a commercial airline!
- 10/21/13 01:24 PM
Well I just had a fabulous evening! My most excellent client, Todd, a JetBlue captain, told me he had to make a maintenance check-out flight on an Airbus A320, a commercial aircraft that's about the equivalent of a Boeing 737 with a bigger cockpit, in a few hours, and asked if I had time to join him! You bet I did! I learned to fly about six years ago, but I never flew anything except a single-engine Cessna. My client is former Navy pilot who is now a captain for JetBlue. I had the enormous pleasure of learning much more about (20 comments)

massachusetts: Red Sox win on SECOND grand slam - But WHY? Do-Something-Itis

Red Sox win on SECOND grand slam - But WHY? Manager Do-Something-Itis By now you know that the Boston Red Sox won the sixth game of the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers and are going to the World Series. They won with a second astonishing and absolutely exhilarating grand slam, this time by Shane Victorino. I love it. You know that. But here's my question. WHY? What exactly do managers do, and why do they do it? Why, that is, do they sabotage their teams at crucial moments by sending in relievers when the starter is doing just (8 comments)
I represented the buyers in their recent acquisition of their dream home in Duxbury, Massachusetts. Set back on a long gravel driveway amid trees and well-tended, mature and professional landscaping, this home is a magnificent example of what sensible updating and an eye for creating open and flowing spaces can do for what was once a smaller and older home. A former garden center, the great room now sits where there was once a barn. Between the great room and the 3-car garage is an open room with high (6 comments)

Why I Love Massachusetts in Autumn An Active Rain challenge asks us So what's so special about your state or province? What sort of beauty does your slice of the world hold? Show us in one picture
This is Massachusetts in autumn photo by imcndbl I'm not sure how to describe what is so special about this beauty. The picture says more than a thousand words ever could. If you've never experienced Fall Colors in New England, or the crisp weather that begins to flow through here in early October, you haven't really lived. At a minimum, you owe yourself a bucket-list (3 comments)
September wasn't a very busy month in the luxury sector of the South Shore real estate market. There were only six transactions over $1.25 million. A list showing some of the details of each sale is shown below. The cutoff for being in the luxury market, which I define as the top 10% of homes on the South Shore remains the same: the sector starts at a list price of $1.25 million. There are so many lovely homes available on the South Shore right now. Take a look at some (7 comments)

The best baseball game ever - Red Sox v. Tigers, ACLS Game 2, 2013 The single most exhilarating event I've ever witnessed in baseball was last night's grand slam home run in the 8th inning by Big Papi, David Ortiz, designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox. I haven't come down yet.
On the first pitch, with bases loaded, Papi unleashes. Fenway Park went absolutely berzerk. The whole inning just kept setting up for this incredible moment. . . . Here's six seconds of me and Grayson just before the game! The first seven innings were just depressing. After losing (5 comments)
massachusetts: Keep the beard?
- 10/09/13 06:01 AM
The biggest post-World Series decision the world must make is: Should I keep the beard I grew in support of the Red Sox as they pursued their quest for, and inevitable acquisition of, the title of 2013 World Series Champions? The votes are coming in. I'm surprised there isn't a clear answer! Help me. Help the world. Vote thumbs up or down on my YouTube video page! And thank you for doing your part to make the world a more beautiful place.

At the end of the third quarter, September 30th, comparisons with the same time last year show that the Plymouth County real estate market is healthy and doing well. The number of sales is up 5% The total value of all sales is up 12% The average sales price is up 7% Mortgage volumes are down 6% and Average mortgage amounts are up 1%.. Clearly, more homes are being bought for cash. The numbers also show what I would call "sensible" growth: not characterized by frothy, or bubble-like conditions the way (2 comments)
massachusetts: Plymouth County sales for two years through September 30, 2013
- 10/05/13 02:06 AM
Plymouth County sales for two years through September 30, 2013 Here is a very useful chart! It shows two years of home sales activity for all of Plymouth County through the third quarter (September 30), 2013. It shows a very healthy real estate market that is behaving in a reliable, confidence-inspiring manner. The blue bars show the number of average monthly sales prices, and the blue trendline shows that the average price of homes sold in the past two years is rising. Note the seasonal pattern of low average prices in the winter and higher prices in the summer. (December 2012 (4 comments)
massachusetts: Flood zones, FEMA maps and Massachusetts flood insurance
- 09/22/13 11:02 AM
Flood zones, FEMA maps and Massachusetts flood insurance There are a lot of scary stories floating around in the media these days about flood insurance and crazy increases in insurance premiums. Much of this is exaggerated because the media is into scaring and shocking people so they'll watch or read the news. Even a story like this one from the Boston Globe that tries to be balanced can, at this point, seem scary because people are either genuinely unsure about what will happen or flipping out about what they think is happening!
Still, this news needs your attention if you (5 comments)
