18 pairs of Piping Plovers have decided to make Duxbury Beach their home for the summer. Town government being what it is, the announcement that the birds' presence triggered state and Federal protection laws that are intended to limit human interaction with and damage to the Plovers and their habitat was handled in an inelegant, insensitive and blunderingly blunt fashion. Predictably, closing the beach for an indefinite time has created a human backlash of thunderstorm proportions. As the grandson of the woman who invented the Cape Cod (3 comments)

massachusetts: Should I rent or buy a home in Plymouth?
- 05/27/13 05:16 AM
"Should I rent or buy a home in Plymouth?" is a more specific question than the questions I've discussed in Should I Rent or Buy a Home?, Should I Rent or Buy Calculator: A Free, Comprehensive Tool, and Using the Should I Rent or Buy Calculator.
The bottom line is that -- right now -- it is hard to find a good home to rent in Plymouth that wouldn't be less expensive to buy. There also aren't very many rental homes available. Plymouth has a very small rental pool for single-family homes. There are condos and apartments, but few homes. (3 comments)
Hingham is primarily a residential town, but it offers some great summer activities. Some of them are year-round, too. The Weir River Farm is a 75-acre working, family-friendly farm, one of the last farms in Hingham, with its own family of horses, pigs, cows, chickens and sheep. You can follow one path to the barnyard and visit with the horses, pigs, and chickens. Another path takes you across a grassy avenue before entering The Grove, woods with an open understory reminiscent of a British woodland. A Garden Path, bordered by flowering shrubs and flowers, within the Grove, creates (5 comments)
massachusetts: My friend, Bailey
- 05/25/13 11:50 PM
Bailey was Kathy's 14-year old, 90-pound Akita-Terrier dog and our friend. If she wasn't up at 7:30, and often earlier, to take him out for his run, and as he got older, his walk, he would bark until she was. He was a very loyal and happy dog. He disliked thunder and fireworks. He loved people, children and other dogs. He chased squirrels, but he never caught them. We love you, and we'll miss you, Bailey.

Tara Drive homes are sought after for their elegance and privacy. This home offers 6,359 square feet of living space, not including the finished and expansive lower level, which is over 2,000 square feet and has a full walk-out to the grounds. The first floor is elegant and breath-taking, with well-proportioned rooms throughout and custom details from every viewpoint. Coffered ceilings, built-in cabinets and gracious arched openings are a few of (3 comments)
massachusetts: Housing report you need to see
- 05/24/13 06:59 AM
Just the facts. When I re-blog other peoples' content, it is because the information is very helpful. While we are certainly seeing an active market, with properly priced homes selling in a very short period of time, the short-term positives are tempered, in my mind, with some very significant longer-term issues. The "recovery" is biggest, in percentage terms, in certain markets that were very hard-hit. The recovery is from very low levels. If interest rates rise, buyers' purchasing power will dry up. If sellers start putting more homes on the market, that could slow or stop advancing price levels in (3 comments)

Cohasset is a residential town, with some great things to do. Cohasset has a walkable downtown, with shops and restaurants in the Village. Main Street and Elm Street are lined with historic homes. At the east end lies the beautiful protected harbor with its lobster boats and historic Minot's Lighthouse. Along the coast, magnificent homes and ocean vistas from Atlantic Avenue and Jerusalem Road comprise the “Gold Coast”, one of the loveliest waterfront home areas in the country. Like much of the east coast of Massachusetts, the area is packed with early American history, and Cohasset has (4 comments)
