massachusetts: Golf courses on the South Shore of Massachusetts - 05/15/13 11:47 AM
Since the Mayflower arrived in Plymouth in 1620, we have had nearly 400 years to build golf courses on the South Shore of Massachusetts, and we've done it well.
We've built them in marshes and cranberry bogs, near the sea shore and on hilltops. We've built residential communities around them, and kept alive the traditional golf club as well.
Whether you would like to take a destination golf vacation, play at a course you've never played before, or turn golf into a complete lifestyle, the South Shore offers you a variety of options.
Here's a list of the public, municipal, private, … (5 comments)

massachusetts: The Tree of Knowledge - 05/15/13 07:12 AM
The Tree of Knowledge monument, at a road intersection in Duxbury, commemorates the post riders meeting place in our town. Below what's legible, it says, "Duxbury Tricentenary 1937".  That is, the monument was erected on the occasion of Duxbury's 300th birthday, now more than 75 years ago.

massachusetts: Bruins amazing come-from-behind OT win! - 05/14/13 03:38 AM
The Boston Bruins scored two goals in the last two minutes of regular play to tie the seventh game of the playoff with the Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-4. Then they scored to win in overtime.
I gotta tell you, I had written them off and wasn't watching the TV anymore, though it was still on in the background . . . until the goal that made it 4-3.
NY Rangers?  Bring it.

massachusetts: Thomas Dowd, Photographer - 05/07/13 05:41 AM
Thomas Dowd, Photographer
A lifelong resident of the South Shore, Thomas Dowd is a photographer who revels in the beauty of our smal corner of the planet. It shows in his vibrant, breathing portrayals of the landscape, whether his feet are on the ground or a thousand feet in the air.
Remember dark rooms? Tom is glad that the days of developing his pictures in the darkness of a room filled with trays of chemicals is over. Now, like nearly every photographer, his vision, once it is captured on a digital canvas, takes shape in a photo editor. The results are … (9 comments)

massachusetts: 403 Main Street, Hingham - 05/02/13 11:26 AM
403 Main Street, Hingham, is a late-Victorian antique home, set in the heart of Hingham Center, and it comes with an intriguing history. Built around 1871, this 11-room home has tastefully updated antique features like granite countertops and stainless-steel appliances in the kitchen, a family room with a fireplace, an entertainment-sized dining room, front and back staircases and many other attractive architectural details.
A beautiful bluestone patio leads off the kitchen, the laundry and mudroom is both spacious and convenient, and 10-foot ceilings and antique wide pine floors grace this 3,315 square-foot home. There's an additional 840 square feet in the basement.

massachusetts: Plymouth County Market Watch for the first quarter of 2013 - 05/02/13 02:26 AM
MLS PIN has published first quarter data on the Massachusetts housing market. I include the All County Overview for Massachusetts, as well as the Plymouth County Market Watch for the first quarter of 2013.
In general, median sales prices are up, while the number of days properties are on the market are down, from the same quarter last year.
The number of closed sales continues to increase, while the number of homes for sale is down substantially, to the point that there is less than a six-month supply of homes on the market.
