The campus of the Duxbury Middle School and the Duxbury High School is on St. George Street, east of Tremont Street (Route 3A). For the moment, the High School is on one side of the street and the Middle School is on the other side, along with the playing fields and the Percy Walker swimming pool. In 2014, the new, and astonishing, co-located Middle and High School will open up for students on the same campus. The Duxbury High School is ranked #10 in Massachusetts by U.S. News. Powder Point in Duxbury has two main roads that encircle the peninsula. King Caesar Road runs down the south side to the Gurnet Bridge, and Powder Point Avenue runs back along the north side toward the center of Duxbury. The Gurnet Bridge is often called the Powder Point Bridge, or even the Duxbury Bridge. It's the wooden bridge that leads from the end of Powder Point to the Duxbury Beach. Standish Shores is a private, quiet peninsula in Duxbury. Captain Myles Standish lived here, in an area that was known in the 1600s as the Nook. Now a monument to Captain Standish stands in the middle of a state park bearing his name on Standish Shores. The monument is visible to boats and helps mariners navigate the waters off Duxbury and Plymouth Bay. Standish Road forms a loop, connecting with Crescent Street. Snug Harbor is on Duxbury Bay in the center of Washington Street. The nearest cross street is Harrison Street. Washington Street runs along the north half of the shoreline in Duxbury from Powder Point to Hall's Corner. Bay Road runs along the southern half of the shoreline. Snug Harbor is a public focal point for local activity in Duxbury. Several popular shops make their home here, including the ever-popular French Memories bakery. Tinkertown is an area on the southwest side of Duxbury. The area runs along both sides of Elm Street and Tobey Garden, north of Tremont Street, from Tremont Street up to the Route 3 overpass. Tinkertown was established in 1757. Many tinkers and other tradesmen, especially those serving the shipbuilding trade, lived here in years past. In the past few years, homes in this neighborhood have sold for prices between about $300,000 to $600,000.
