Apple Hill Lane is a cul-de-sac neighborhood on the west side of Duxbury, near the Chandler Elementary School. In the past few years, homes in this neighborhood have sold for $495,000 to about $550,000. The Duxbury public schools start with Chandler Elementary School, then the Alden School, Duxbury Middle School and Duxbury High School. I lived here once, over ten years ago. It's really nice, quiet and friendly. It's surrounded by conservation land and edged with a big pond. Many of the residents are raising their families here, or have raised their children and still (2 comments)

This is the story around the country, and here on the South Shore, it's also true. Duxbury, where the average sale is over $600,000, is the only town in my service area of 13 towns where the number of sales is greater than the number of homes going on the market during the last few months. Sellers seem to be thawing out a little, coming out of their deep freeze into a somewhat "warmer" market, but this month, June, is likely to be one of the busiest months for closed sales in Duxbury (3 comments)

Among those Union troops were a significant number of Duxbury men. . . . Read more of this and other fascinating (5 comments)

Keyless entry with a sensor or mobile phone app. These devices aren't on the market yet, and I suspect there will be more options available soon. Would you use one of these? Goji is my favorite. It takes a picture of the people at the door and sends it to your phone. Goji works with your smartphone, two programmable key fobs or mechanical keys. Indigogo is selling it now for $278 with 24/7 customer service, but it won't (7 comments)

Town government being what it is, the announcement that the birds' presence triggered state and Federal protection laws that are intended to limit human interaction with and damage to the Plovers and their habitat was handled in an inelegant, insensitive and blunderingly blunt fashion. Predictably, closing the beach for an indefinite time has created a human backlash of thunderstorm proportions. As the grandson of the woman who invented the Cape Cod (3 comments)
