brampton: Vote! Canada Election 2008 - 10/04/08 12:14 PM
Monday, October 6th is the last advance voting day.  Otherwise, your last chance to vote is election day, Tuesday, October 14th.
By now, you should have received a voter information card (if you're on the voter registration list or gave the Canada Revenue Agency permission to share your residence information with Elections Canada).  You don't have to bring this card with you to vote, but it is adviseable -- the poll no. printed on the card helps those working at the polling station to direct you to the proper table.
If you haven't received a voter information card, or the one … (0 comments)

brampton: Floor Plans of Your Home - 10/04/08 09:47 AM
Would you like to see or have a copy of your home's floor plans? Well, the City of Brampton should have a copy of your home's building plans on file.
Just head over to the Building Division of Planning, Design and Development, now located at Flower City Community Campus (a "block" south of Queen St), address: 8850 McLaughlin Rd., Unit 1.
Once inside the building, head downstairs to Document Services.  Don't forget to bring picture ID (e.g., Ontario driver's licence).  The clerk will verify your identity against their tax roll information for the property.  For a recent transfer in title, you … (1 comments)

brampton: Basement Apartments in Brampton - 10/31/07 03:38 PM
The City of Brampton wants home buyers to know that the only legal basement apartments in Brampton -- there are about 3000 such homes -- had to exist prior to November 16, 1995, be registered with the City before January 31, 2006, and be limited to a single unit.  The "mortgage helper" (e.g., renting out a basement apartment as a secondary source of income) can be quite enticing to prospective home buyers.  But there are risks associated with renting out an illegal apartment, including fines, prosecution, and excluded coverage from your homeowners insurance.
(Sidebar: while the City doesn't say how many … (1 comments)

City staff are forecasting the housing starts number to drop to 5000 for 2008, and taper down further in 2009 and 2010. Meanwhile, 2008 estimates for industrial, commercial, office, and institutional construction have been revised upwards to 5 million square feet. brampton: Cursed Properties? - 09/29/07 02:52 AM
I frequently drive by a couple of houses in an otherwise desirable Brampton subdivision that have been on the market for ages.  It's a nice area, except for these corner properties which seem to be cursed.
One has been on the market, on and off, since Nov '05.  It didn't (still doesn't) show well.  Exterior lighting over the garage doors were broken by kids playing basketball in the chalk marked driveway.  The lawn was unattended to.  And it's vacant and unstaged.  On the positive side, last week, the owner replaced the broken light fixtures, installed hardwood on the main level.  Oh, they … (2 comments)

brampton: Brampton - New Home Sales - 08/04/07 08:39 AM
According to RealNet Canada, new home sales in the GTA are still quite healthy, with the price index up 5.1% for low rise projects, and 1.7% for high-rise projects. In contrast, the inventory of semi's, townhomes, and apartments is higher in W23 than W24. … (0 comments)
