green county wisconsin: Thankful Thursday - Patience bears fruit - 06/04/09 03:57 AM

We planted two dwarf pear trees a few years ago.  I know the old saying about full sized pear trees "Grow pears for your heirs."  This is why we went with dwarf trees.  The cherry tree we planted the same year has born fruit three years now, but the pears have never had anything.  This year, though, one tree is covered with tiny fruit and the other has a smattering of developing pears too.  Exciting!  I'm looking forward to making pear butter and pear crisp this fall.

green county wisconsin: Area Business Spotlight: Nicki's Diapers - 02/23/09 07:57 AM
There is a strong entreprenurial spirit here in the Green County area.  Many small businesses call this area home.  Some are well known outside of the area, but little known here. One of these businesses is Nicki's Diapers. Nicki's Diapers opened up a retail storefront in New Glarus last year under the name Planet Wise, but they have been operating online for considerably longer than that. Nicki's Diapers and Planet Wise show the half-hidden environmentalism that is surprisingly strong here in the Green County area.As a cloth diaper user myself, the opening on Planet Wise made it even easier to keep my … (1 comments)

green county wisconsin: One thing I love about my job - 02/21/09 07:32 AM
There are many wonderful things about being a realtor, but I think my favorite has to be the terrific people who I have gotten to know as a result of helping them buy or sell a home.  Many times, clients become friends who are present in my life long after we leave the closing table. There is the couple who dropped off a bag of cucumbers at the office for me last summer because they had too many and they knew I could find a use for them.  I made freezer pickles, and every time I open a jar this winter, I … (2 comments)
