The Monroe Concerts on the Square start this week. The Thursday evening concert series will happen every other week all summer long.
The concerts kick off this week with a performance by Beth Kille. Beth has treated Monroe to some great concerts in the past as part of Clear Blue Betty. She gives a great concert with a combination of rock, country, folk and blues.
The concerts start at 6:30 pm. Bring your chair and pack a picnic supper. You can also order a boxed supper from some of Downtown Restaurants.

An interesting multi-cultural, mixed media exhibit is opening at the Monroe Arts Center Frehner Gallery this Thursday.
"Message from Swaziland" was inspired by local artist Jennifer Rikkers' walk through parts of Africa when she participated in the 2008 Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation AIDS Walk Africa. Rikkers combined her photography with acrylic painting to create this exhibit highlighting the people of Swaziland who touched her so deeply during her walk through the country. Rikkers wanted to share the message of Swaziland's people, a people in a country that has been deeply affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis.

Our friend Jennifer over at Primitive Soul Art Studio in Monroe started the Shakespeare Project for youth a number of years ago. This project has grown into the non-profit group Shakespeare on the Edge, which we have mentioned often on this blog. SotE now includes not only the Shakespeare Project but also The Eclectic Rogues, a traveling youth group who do performances as well as workshops addressing modern issues through the works of Shakespeare.

~ The Wisconsin Regional Art Exhibit opens at the Monroe Arts Center on Thursday evening. This multi-media exhibit features artist from all over the region. The Alpine Curling Club is offering an Introduction to Curling class. This six week course begins on February 6th and runs through March 13. ~ The Monroe Clinic Volunteers have their annual Christmas Festival on Friday in Founder's Hall. On December 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., stop in for a bake sale, lunch stand, Clare’s Closet gift shop items, a silent auction as well as coffee and sweets. All proceeds benefit the scholarship fund.
