Florida's back-to-school tax holiday started Friday, and shoppers should prepare for a mad dash, especially today...the LAST DAY of tax free shopping! Instead of a tax-free week that Florida has had in some past years, this year shoppers only had three days: Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Generally speaking, school supplies and clothing are tax free, with some very specific rules in effect. Clothing: Items $75 or less are tax free. By state law, that includes things like shirts, jackets, pants, footwear, shoes, fanny packs, lingerie and purses. But, items like football pads, in-line skates and watches are taxable.
