November 20th is National Thank A Farmer Day. So why do we thank a farmer and dedicate a national day for this?
Farmers are needed for many things. They grow crops to feed animals and humans as well as supplying humans with the fabric for the clothes we wear. Without these items we would starve and freeze.
Farmers and farming create jobs in manufacturing and transporting of goods that all of us need and want in out everyday lives.
I have noticed a few of the Buyers of farms and farmettes in Eastern Pennsylvania come from the city and have never done any sort of farming. They have had dreams of farming and owning horse property most of their lives. They now want to make their dreams come true.
Now one thing to keep in mind when living the dream of owning a horse farm or farm, is that it is not all fun. Don't get me wrong, there are those of us that have a passion for farm life and wouldn't (8 comments)
It is so important to conserve our farmland instead of developing it. Farms are part of the future to feed the world population.
Farms supply the fruits and vegetables, the meats, dairy products, and so much more. All of these items are found in the grocery store, but remember where they have to originate. Without the farms, there would be no groceries to feed the families.
Therefore, it is al;so important to have future generations of farmers. Even if we conserve the farmland, if there are no farmers (8 comments)
The other evening, I attended a Northampton County 4H Leaders Meeting. It was held at the Grange Hall in a small village of Moorestown in Northampton County, PA, a few miles outside of Nazareth.
I have been in the Hall years ago when my kids were small. It is a really neat place with a lot of history behind it. Ribbons that were won at different competitions are displayed on the walls in frames dating back to 1928. Plus, framed photos of the members of the Grange are hung throughout the meeting hall.
