wilmington nc: Wilmington Tweetup a Cheesy Success!! - 05/28/09 02:51 AM
The 3rd Wilmington Tweetup was in Wilmington Wednesday evening, hosted by Hagood Homes and sponsored by Front Street Brewery and Chris's Cosmic Kitchen. The event was well attended and perhaps because it was held in one of Hagood's beautiful model homes at Southern Oak, it felt like a house party. Marge and I were a bit late arriving due to a fractured frammis (or something) in Marge's car, but even though we got there for only the last 30 minutes or so, it was a high-energy event. Lots of info sharing about Twitter and other social media, new acquaintances, and even … (0 comments)

wilmington nc: What I've Learned About Blog "Voice" and Consistency - 05/01/09 09:05 PM
Earlier this week I posted on my personal blog (www.beingbrucebrown.com) a Fox News clip with the CEO of Coldwell Banker's suggestions for how to turn around the economy and get the housing market re-started. Good stuff and all and, on the national level probably valid and if the steps he suggest were implemented it would have local effect as well. However, in hindsight, it was a mistake to put that content on my blog. I'm not taking it down because that would be wussie (corrected spelling welcomed!) but I'm not going there again.
So here's what I learned.
1. Not to … (0 comments)

wilmington nc: Sunday Evening Dinner at Front Street Brewery - 04/27/09 12:55 AM
What a great time! Sunday evening Marge and I went to have dinner at Front Street Brewery in downtown Wilmington, NC. It's located on . . . Front Street! 9 North Front Street to be exact. In the photo below FSB Manager Ronda Aycock, FSB owner Tom Harris, and Marge Brown before we went in to be seated. I'm generally shy about having my photo taken, but Tom was so polite I couldn't help posing with Marge. Inside, Front Street Brewery was bustling. The restaurant's Kiss High Prices Goodbye campaign featuring $5.99 lunches and $6.99 dinners has been a huge success, … (1 comments)

wilmington nc: Leland New Home Community Tours and Events at Compass Pointe and Brunswick Forest - 04/17/09 08:43 PM
My good friend and HDTV expert Alfred Poor follows my blog and has exclaimed more than once that it seems I spend a lot of time eating for free at Realtor events. And of course he's right (he generally is) but as a working member of the technology press for nigh on to 30 years (he started young), Alfred works his own way well around a promotional luncheon, I know for a fact. This week I laid kinda low on the meal circuit, but Thursday and Friday made up for it at events involving Compass Pointe and Brunswick Forest, two of … (0 comments)

wilmington nc: Can You Find a Better House in Inland Greens? - A Challenge - 04/15/09 09:39 PM
Check out the photo above. Can you believe this is not a model home? The owners of this very well priced, three bedroom two and half bath golf course patio home in Inland Greens did such an outstanding job of preparing it to sell that it almost defies comparison. So far the folks who've looked at this home, whether potential buyers, Realtors, or neighbors, have all been blown away by how clean and beautiful it is. Another interesting fact: much of the interest has been from folks who already live in Inland Greens who want to share the "secret" of their … (0 comments)

wilmington nc: Almost Serious - It's the Beach - 04/12/09 05:42 AM
There are many many great reasons to move to the greater Wilmington, NC region - also known as Cape Fear. In this 4 minute video Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Realty Broker enumerates several of the key factors people consider when moving to southeastern North Carolina. Among the top reasons often cited are area growth, jobs and economic development, year round temperate climate, great golf, boating and fishing, surfing, Wilmington's Historic District, the region's burgeoning film and tv industry, and 1100+ great restaurants. When it comes right down to it, however, the REAL reason move here is because of the beaches. We … (0 comments)

wilmington nc: Even More Ridiculous - Video while on the phone, driving, and texting - 03/28/09 06:46 AM
In this PARODY of safe driving, videoing, texting, and phone calling all at the same time, North Carolina real estate agent Bruce Brown yet again makes a point. Apparently when I made the first video and posted it here a couple people thought I was being serious. Ah, no, it was supposed to be funny. The funniest thing, however, to me, is that my clients, my managers, and my colleagues thot it was a complete hoot. So, perhaps to make the point more strongly, or just to have more fun, I made it even better (or worse, depending on your perspective). … (1 comments)

wilmington nc: Using Twitter in Business - Panel Discussion with Video - 03/26/09 11:04 PM
Do you have questions about using Twitter in your business? At last night's meeting of the Wilmington SEO Meetup group approximately 50 people listened to Moderator Ty Downing of Perspective Internet Marketing and SayItSocial and panelists Shannan Bowen of the Wilmington Star News, Steve Harrell of Sophic, and Bruce Brown of Coldwell Banker Sea Coast Realty (hey, that's me!) talk about their learning curve, strategies, and successes using Twitter in and for their respective businesses. William Lang of Port City Color Copy handled the Ustream PC and fielded questions that came in via the Internet. The 60 minute video on Using … (0 comments)

wilmington nc: Dangerous Video Habits - 03/22/09 06:53 PM
After viewing videos other Realtors have made while driving and hearing comments and questions about whether or not that's a safe practice, I decided to try it myself. I'm happy to report that it was fine, fun, and not at all a safety hazard to others, to myself, or to my dog Pepper, who's viewable through most of the video in the back of the vehicle. … (2 comments)

wilmington nc: The Secret Life of Real Estate Agents - 03/17/09 09:45 PM
What really goes on after hours in a Wilmington/Leland, North Carolina real estate office. Many people think that all real estate agents do is look stuff up on computers, drive around, look at houses, try to figure out what contracts and forms really mean, and add up and subtract numbers. That's just not so. This short video reveals the secret life of real estate agents - one anyway. If you can't see the video above, click on this: http://beingbruce.blogspot.com/2009/03/secret-life-of-real-estate-agent.html … (2 comments)

wilmington nc: Olive oil as a sunscreen at the East Coast surfing capital - 03/09/09 08:15 AM
As many people know, Wrightsville Beach in the Wilmington, North Carolina area has the best ocean surfing on the east coast of the U.S. If you don't know that, it might interest you to know that we have lots of surfing tournaments here, that during the summer surf camps and school are a minor but very busy industry, and that surfers can be seen in the water pretty much year round. In this short video, which is admittedly a little silly (!), I demonstrate that just because I share the same name (Bruce Brown) of the guy who made the original … (3 comments)

wilmington nc: A Clean Shirt - Yes, It Does Have to do with Real Estate - sorta - 03/07/09 10:59 PM
Do you use Twitter? Lots of my friends, clients, and prospects do. This short video, which was "inspired" by a Twitter conversation with some friends from Pennsylvania, demonstrates how you can add value to conversations and still tie in information about your local area. In our case, the Wilmington area weather is so mild (relatively) that we can canoe or kayak year round, so it's not unusual for us to make references to being on the beach or paddling on the river in February. From that reference sprung a comment that lead to this video. … (0 comments)

wilmington nc: Cool modern twist on an old-timey style 'hood - Shelmore in Brunswick Forest - 03/07/09 10:52 PM
There's a cool new village called Shelmore in the gigundo planned development Brunswick Forest in Leland, North Carolina. There are 18 floor plans available with at least 3 possible elevations for each. Right now there are 6 furnished models to tour. All Shelmore homes will be Craftsman style with front porches with swings, rear entry garages, white picket fences with entry arbors. Very much a turn-of-the-last-century small town look. Prices are in the high $300s to mid $400s. As usual for Brunswick Forest neighborhoods most everything one would want is standard (granite, stainless steel appliances, lots of crown molding and cool … (0 comments)

Short version -Our area is in a period of slower growth, but we are NOT in a recession. An assembled crowd of approximately 40 members and guests of the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce gathered to hear UNCW's Cameron School of Business Professor William W. (Woody) Hall speak about the regional and local economy. For those who might not be familar with Dr. Hall, he's been the go-to guy on area economic info and projections for more than 20 years. NBCC President Peggy O'Leary of Premier Staffing Services introduced Dr. Hall. Dr. Hall gave us lots of facts and figures about … (0 comments)
