LOBSTERFEST 2008  in Key West starts tonight, August 8, 2008.  This year's event, celebrating Florida's famed Spiny Lobster, kicks off tonight at 8:00pm at Rick's Saloon.  The city's legendary Duval Street will be blocked off at each end to allow for the "Duval Crawl" where hundreds of participants roam up and down the Street, partaking of liquid and lobster refreshments way into the early morning hours.  What a time!  On Saturday there will be loads of lobster being served and a big Street Fair will offer a multitude of merchandise, crafts, and art.  Sunday will feature a big Lobster Brunch to … (5 comments)

duval street: Cruise Ships in Key West - 02/19/08 07:23 AM
On average, there are two cruise ships each day docked at the Navy's "Mole Pier" here in Old Town Key West.  When you are near the area, you can't help being impressed by the massiveness of the vessells, and the number of tourists spilling out of them.  Each month, Key West's retail area, primarily historic Duval Street, is visited by tens of thousands of visitors from the ships.  The local merchants love them, of course.  My company's office, in fact, has ship visitors drop by every now and then, and some do actually make purchases! … (2 comments)

duval street: Post Fantasy Fest - 10/28/07 03:03 AM
Well, it came and went, but what a week in Key West!!  The culmination of this year's Fantasy Fest was the Grand Parade last evening.  Duval Street in Old Town Key West was blocked off for the event, which featured elaborate floats, many of which were almost Rose Bowl Parade caliber.  Unbridled fun was the fare for the evening, with float passengers and operators flinging brightly-colored beads to the bystanders.  Terri and I and our quests must have amassed several pounds each of this "jewelry" around our necks by the time it was over.  As you might immagine, the streets were filled with … (2 comments)
