redevelopment: Sergey Brin and Passerelle pull off major improvements to Los Altos - 09/03/12 08:16 AM
Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, and his real estate development company, Passerelle Investment Co., are doing for downtown Los Altos, CA what nobody has ever been able to achieve.  They're buying buildings, making improvements, and setting in motion plans to bring our sleepy little town into the 21st century.  And I'm sure it's being done with a few old-timers kicking and screaming along the way.
I grew up in Los Altos and lived a significant portion of my life there.  For decades, while nearby towns such as Los Gatos and Mountain View, become destinations with myriad dining and shopping options, Los … (14 comments)

redevelopment: Intersection of First and Main in Los Altos - what's taking so long? - 09/16/11 11:36 AM
The intersection of First Street and Main Street, one of the main routes into downtown Los Altos, has been blocked for months while the city rebuilds it.  The construction has made getting to downtown difficult and done serious damage to sales at the businesses downtown.  At this point, the project is several weeks behind schedule.  What's taking so long?

Have you wondered why Mountain View, Los Gatos, Campbell, Willow Glen, Palo Alto, and other towns all have or are becoming "destinations"?  Downtown Mountain View has become a huge destination … (4 comments)

redevelopment: Update on downtown Los Altos crosswalk construction - 05/16/11 05:37 AM
The ongoing redevelopment and construction in downtown Los Altos has left visitors with a little more dust and dirt than they'd like to see.  I had a nice meeting with propsective clients at the Le Boulanger on Friday afternoon and was surprised to see that work was still going on at the corner of 2nd and Main Streets.  As you can see from the picture, they've put in the firms for the first, uncolored concrete segments.  Once those cure, they'll work on the next colored segments.  Since this is the busiest section of downtown Los Altos, it's no surprise that closing … (0 comments)
